What’s your view of the recently-released PlayStation Access Controller and what it represents in terms of the advancement of accessibility?

Cari Watterton: party accessible controller for PlayStation, and it represents a huge step forward for the industry. The controller itself is really well designed and has great durability and transportability. Also, the software itself is very powerful, with options for toggle switches on the controller, the ability to map multiple inputs to one button, and the opportunity to  like this help bring motor accessibility to the forefront and encourage developers to think about remapping, alternate control presets, as well as consider how their games could work with the controller.


Laura Dale: The device’s release marks   supported accessibility controllers, and that’s a huge moment for making accessible hardware more accessible. While these devices aren’t cheap, they are a lot more  a decade ago, and are doing a lot to reduce the workload placed on charities like 


I think that PlayStation in particular having access to an accessibility controller on their consoles is an exciting step. PlayStation’s  or so have been doing some of the most forward thinking software level accessibility advancements seen across the industry, and those games now also being accessible for more players with physical access needs is great to see.


SightlessKombat: The Access Controller 


across the space who are enjoying games because of it and that in itself is brilliant to hear. However, the design in my testing  I’m curious to see where things go moving forward, but it’s an overall relatively positive talking point which, in terms of accessibility, is always good to see.


Laura Dale: I really appreciate the Access Controller. The fact it is a self-contained controller, one I can set up for my personal use case without trailing wires connected to external components, has meant I use them a lot more readily than other accessibility controllers. If I am experiencing hand pain  the shelf and jump into playing with minimal setup. This is also helped a lot by the device’s  designed controller remapping software available for the device.


Ian Hamilton: It’s a great addition to the  to switch interfaces like the Xbox Adaptive  compliments work The Controller Project and Makers Making Change are doing.


Cari Watterton: There have been comparisons between the PS access controller and the Xbox adaptive controller, but we need to be careful about this as it’s an unfair comparison; they are designed for  what they do. We need to be encouraging platforms and hardware developers to create more solutions to improve accessibility.
