CONVEYORS & END OF LINE PACKAGING
– such as Ladder-Flex Spreading Conveyors from Wire Belt – can effectively increase product spacing, without the need for manual intervention. “This is done using individual chains for randomised products, or lanes of grouped chains for consistently spaced products. The increase in product separation is customisable based on the application, available space, and product size, to ensure that products enter the next piece of processing equipment with optimal spacing,” says Wendy.
Accurate product spacing on a conveyor will often also
allow narrower conveyors to be used, which can save valuable factory fl oor space. Wire Belt’s solution is a positively driven non-slip spreader or converger using Ladder-Flex stainless steel belting. The conveyor comprises rows of belting running on a food grade high density blue polyethylene support surface and a series of small stainless-steel sprockets driving within the mesh of the belt strands. The conveyors can be custom built to suit the product being handled.
Automated packing solution increases production capacity for TTK Confectionery
TTK Confectionery (The Treat Kitchen) is an innovator in the world of packaged confectionery and gifting, striving to create new and exciting product offerings designed as giftable purchases, with an in-house design team who continually carry out research to make sure the company stays ahead of the competition and moves quickly to address changing trends. TTK has succeeded in increasing its production capacity
by 35% thanks to the use of a combined weighing, fi lling and packing machine from Scayl and has helped it secure an order from a major supermarket and a listing in 292 stores. Increasing demand for its products meant that TTK
needed to speed up its packaging operation. It had, traditionally manually packed over 300 varieties of sweets into different packaging and jars, utilising a team of seven people. It was time consuming and ineffi cient and often needed to hire in temporary, unskilled workers to help it cope with seasonal demand.
TTK contacted Scayl for a solution, and the Phil 2500’s
and Seal 1000 were suggested as the best packaging solution to meet its needs. The Phil 2500 is suited to packing dry ingredients. Operation is simple – the ingredients are loaded into the top of the hopper, the desired weight is entered on the digital display and the machine is able to automatically dispense the ingredients into the packaging, while displaying a count of how much has been dispensed. A bold claim, but Scayl believes that, in most applications, users will see a return on investment within the fi rst month. Two Phil 2500s and one Seal 1000 were purchased by
TTK which increased production capacity overnight by 25-35% across its entire product range. Scayl offered in depth training and taught TTK operators how to change the system settings to work with different ingredients on the fl y. So now, each morning the machines are optimised for the type of sweet they will be packing. On one of its product ranges, TTK has managed to increase production from 200 to 350 fi lled glass jars per hour.
