Cacaofruit used to energise mixed drinks
As consumers prioritise environmental benefits, the demand for cacaofruit is expanding into new areas like mixed drinks. Cabosse Naturals, a cacaofruit expert, reports significant growth in mixed drinks sales compared to 2022, with non-alcoholic drinks increasing by 30% and alcoholic beverages by 70%. New drinks featuring cacaofruit include mocktails, beers,
wines, and spritzers introduced in late 2023 and early 2024. First introduced in 2019, Cabosse Naturals’ 100% pure cacaofruit ingredients have led to numerous product launches and awards for taste and sustainability. These upcycled ingredients allow brands to apply for the Upcycled Certified mark, the world’s first certification for upcycled food, aiding consumers in making environmentally informed choices. William Angleys, Global Business Development Director
at Barry Callebaut, states: “Millennials and Gen Z seek new taste experiences and healthier options. Cacaofruit provides both, enabling artisans to innovate with new drinks or add a cacaofruit twist to classics.” Traditionally, 70% of cacaofruit was discarded as only seeds
were used for chocolate. Cabosse Naturals now upcycles the entire fruit into juice, pulp, powder, and concentrate, reducing waste and creating innovative ingredients for the food industry.
