Should I stay or should I go?


There is only one thing you can be sure of now – and that is that nothing is for sure. There are mixed feelings about the moving dates of the trade shows and the effect this has on the industry. Angus Kennedy assesses the exhibition landscape for 2021 and asks readers what they think.

SM has announced this month that the show will be taking place, though a lot smaller we understand; and Interpack is still going ahead next year from 25 February 2021 to 3 March 2021. Interpack has also announced that it is planning its show for 2023 too. There are mixed views from the trade. We are expecting more announcements, however this is correct at time of writing 23 November 2020. We asked Interpack what it is offering exhibitors for the February 2021 event and they told Kennedy’s: “Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and fears of lower number of visitors, all participating companies will receive discounted participation conditions. In addition, there is a temporary special right of termination for all

exhibitors who cannot or do not want to participate.” So, in effect Interpack is offering exhibitors the chance to postpone their entire booking to 2023, attend the February 2021 show, or cancel all together for a fee. That’s quite a choice! We asked a few readers what they are planning for Interpack as there is a lot of sitting on the fence now. And there understandably is a case of: ‘should I stay, or should I go?’ Markus Rustler, President, Theegarten-Pactec GmbH & Co. KG was firmly behind the decisions and looks forward to 2021. He told Kennedy’s: “Interpack is and remains the most important trade fair on our calendar. The worldwide COVID-19 epidemic, which has already led to a postponement of the fair from May 2020
