Suzanne Callander reports on some of the most important considerations when specifying a belt or conveyor solution to handle confectionery products.
t goes without saying that the most important
consideration for confectionery producers, when specifying a belt or conveying solution, should relate to hygiene and food safety. In a food industry sector that is particularly prone to sticky and hard to handle
products, it is vital to choose belts and conveyors solutions that are easy to clean. Hygiene features are therefore also top of mind for conveyor
and belt manufacturers. Wire Belt, for example, has available a range of hygienic conveyors designed to make good hygiene standards easy to maintain. The belt has an open wash-through construction and open leg frames. Surfaces are self-draining
in order to eliminate the risk of water accumulation, and there are no parts that need to be removed to access hidden areas at cleaning time. Components of the conveyors, such as footpads, which are traditionally made of plastic, are also now stainless steel and even the control panel is designed with hygiene in mind, featuring a sloped top for drainage, IP66 ingress protection and fully stainless-steel construction.
