good-die and test products according to the original test procedures, ensuring continuity of supply for our customers. Rochester-produced parts are current date coded with no solderability risk and are marked with the original manufacturer’s part numbers, 100% compliant with the original specifi cations.
The semiconductor industry has been in turmoil over the last two years, how has this impacted your business? As the authorised shortage and end- of-life partner for most of the world’s leading semiconductor companies, Rochester has been able to offer risk-free instant supply to thousands of customers; preventing line-stops and guaranteeing in-service support for customers’ products when no other credible stock was available. For over 40 years, and many cyclical demand- and-supply swings, Rochester has been the balancing moderator at the centre of the industry, exclusively managing authorised over-supply in times of plenty and providing critical supply in times of shortage.
In your view, what’s the biggest challenge companies face while managing their product lifecycles? Managing the growing gap between their end equipment lifecycles, including in-service life, and the shortening lifecycles of their critical components. Customers will be increasingly forced to tie up scarce capital in large EOL component stocks, implement expensive obsolescence-driven re- designs and re-qualifi cations, and reduce their in-service support, or prematurely discontinue their end products. An authorised EOL partner, engaged in the discussions early, can help minimise or eliminate these risks and uncertainties.
What are your thoughts on counterfeit components entering the supply chain due to supply
issues, and what safeguarding measures can be put in place? The risk of counterfeit and inferior products from unauthorised sources represents a signifi cant risk to production yield and failure rates (MTBR). Inferior or substandard “testing” by unauthorised 3rd parties offers a veneer of confi dence that components can be accurately tested. In truth, the testing is a poor imitation of the original manufacturer’s test processes, therefore not eliminating the issue of counterfeits, nor the signifi cant risk to the customer.
What are Rochester’s plans for 2023? We will continue to strengthen our position in the market by supporting our customers worldwide with our varied inventory, manufacturing capabilities and years of experience. The goal is to
offer exemplary customer service to our customers through our platforms and people.
What’s your advice to businesses in 2023? Expect and plan for the unexpected. While supply-side constraints are slowly easing, uncertainty still exists at all levels of the supply chain. It is now more vital than ever before to have partners who can support businesses during ongoing shortages, and unforeseen or unplanned component discontinuations, completely risk-free whenever they occur.
