Pickering adds electrostatic shielding to high voltage miniature reed relay to minimize noise Pickering Electronics, the reed relay company which has pioneered miniaturization and high performance for over 50 years, has launched a new variant of its high voltage Series 104 SIL/SIP reed relay family with optional electrostatic shielding between the switch and the coil to help minimize noise between the coil drive and high voltage circuits. This new screening is in addition to Pickering’s internal mu-metal screen which eliminates problems that would otherwise be experienced due to magnetic interaction when devices are closely stacked. Series

104 reed relays are ideal for such applications as mixed signal semiconductor testers, renewable technologies such as solar or ev battery testing, transformer or cable testing or any other automatic test equipment where high voltages are involved. Where mains voltages are switched, for example to control and isolate S.C.R. or triac gates, they are the ideal choice. Four types of dry switches are available, capable of standing-off 1.5, 2, 3 and 4kV DC – another new introduction. The 3kV & 4kV versions have an increased clearance between the switch and coil pins to accommodate the higher voltage. www.pickeringrelay.com

SFN announces Bizen foundry network that halves IC purchasing price and slashes leadtime Search for the Next (SFN), developers of the Bizen wafer process, Zpolar transistor and Zpolar Tunnel Logic (ZTL), today announced the WaferTrain network of foundries that is equipped with the Bizen®

wafer process and

with capacity available now to build ICs that are equivalent to 180nm CMOS devices, yet are half the price and on short leadtimes. Explains David Summerland, CEO of SFN: “Design engineers and purchasers want to pay less for their ICs and have them now rather than on long leadtimes. But semiconductor makers have limited capacity. By installing our ITM180 process node infrastructure, semiconductor

foundries could easily offer their customers savings of 50% on the price of a device. And halve leadtime. If the original device maker is not ready to shift to Bizen, then SFN can replicate the CMOS chip in question and produce an equivalent Bizen device that offers pin-for-pin functionality and performance on the WaferTrain lines.Bizen applies quantum mechanics to any wafer process technology. The Bizen wafer process is used to build Zpolar Transistors with Zpolar®

IDR-2050 - New radar sensor for non-contact level measurement

As a mechanical engineer (ME), I honestly never figured that I would need to know much more than your typical V=IR (Ohm’s Law). Often, the EE classes for MEs would make the comparison of Ohm’s Law to Newton’s second law to help clarify the concepts. Which leaves me wondering if there is a mechanical comparison for understanding NRZ and PAM4 like there is for comparing V=IR to F=MA?

Omron expands DC Power Relay Portfolio for green and sustainable systems

Omron Electronic Components Europe has extended its family of DC power relays with the introduction of the G9EC-X1, a compact relay, offering switching up to 1000V, 150A DC loads. The new device is ideal for green and sustainable systems. Applications for the new Omron G9EC include DC safety shutdown for fast chargers, as well as rapid shutdown junction boxes, commercial or industrial PV Inverters. Switching and driving sections are gas-injected and hermetically sealed, allowing these compact relays to interrupt high-capacity loads. The sealed construction also requires no arc space, saving space, and helping to ensure safe applications. The new relay is identical in size to the standard G9EC model, just 98 x 44 x 86.7 mm (L x W x H). It carries approval to UL/CSA standard UL508. Operational life is rated at 1,000 operations at 1kV DC / 150A, 6,000 operations at 1kV / 100A, and 3,000 operations at 400V DC / 200A. The contact resistance within the relay is less than 0.5 Ω, reducing heat generation inside the component.

As 60 GHz FMCW radar sensor with a range of 10 m, the IDR-2050 is ideal for fill level detection in smaller silos. Distances are measured with impressive precision in the millimetre range (±5 mm). The focused radar beam enables reliable measurement results without impairment by interfering factors in the environment, such as mixers or reflective walls. Regardless of light or weather conditions, dust, vapour, or dirt, the sensor detects various materials and objects. The IDR-2050 is extremely flat and small thanks to its special radome. Its design simplifies the installation of the product in standardised housings with little space. The product combines the benefits of advanced radar technology at an affordable

price, making it an alternative to common ultrasonic measurement systems. The IDR- 2050 can also be used for collision avoidance.
