EDITOR’S COMMENT Jack Cheeseman

Congratulations and celebrations!

T 12

he ERT Turning Point Live! conference and ERT Awards took place earlier this month – a brilliant day for everyone that was there. Thanks to all who attended!

Firstly, huge congratulations goes to all of this year’s winners, highly commended and indeed the finalists as well. We had a record number of entries this year, which certainly made it a harder job for the judges – but the quality of retailer entries just goes to show the hard work and the levels people are going to in order to stand out on the increasingly quiet proverbial high street. It was really great to see the winners announced

throughout the afternoon – there was a lot of excitement in the room! Some post-Awards promotion is definitely in order and I urge all the winners to shout about their trophies whenever and wherever they can; it’s a huge achievement – something that should be celebrated at any opportunity!

Full coverage of this year’s ERT Awards will appear in the next issue of ERT.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our event sponsors for the day and a massive thanks also goes to all the guest speakers and panellists that were involved in the Turning Point Live! conference.

Without their expertise the conference would not have been possible, and feedback we had following the event demonstrated that each session throughout the morning was interesting and insightful. I hope retailers were encouraged to start thinking about their businesses and how to plan for the future. This was my first year hosting the ERT Turning Point Live! conference – and introducing the ERT Awards – and it was so good to see the industry there in force on the day!

It was certainly a busy few months in the lead- up to the event! Discussion topics during Turning Point Live! were varied in order to cater to as many attendees as possible.

The idea of the websites and digital marketing panel discussion was introduced to get people thinking about their current website platforms and social media channels, as finding the time to be as effective as possible across these can be tricky. The smart home is another huge ‘buzz phrase’ at

the moment, so we couldn’t talk about the future of retail without addressing how retailers can embrace new smart technology. We also heard from Nick Simon from GfK, Martyn

Allen from Electrical Safety First, and Chris Buecker from Retail Plus and the TCG Summit during the morning. In the next issue of ERT, there will be a full write -up of each conference session, so keep an eye out!
