Sail away with an electrical bargain... (but at what cost?)
On the occasion of his wife’s 40-something birthday, Simon King recently embarked on his fi rst cruise – and he was shocked to see an electrical retailer doing a roaring trade on-board.

Having travelled out of many UK airports, I am used to seeing Dixons Travel outlets, but this time I was not fighting my way through Heathrow or Gatwick airports, but walking at a leisurely pace to enjoy the hospitality on P&O Cruises’ Ventura ship. Travel opened its first store on board a P&O ship, Ventura, in August 2017. The 274sq ft store is open whilst the ship is at sea. Opening hours vary, depending on the journey, which can range from two to 35 days;

this mammoth cruise was next on the list once we had returned to Southampton four days later. In July 2018, Dixons Travel signed
a 12-month contract to continue operating on Ventura, following a successful six-month trial period. Since first opening, the outlet has increased by around 50 per cent in size and slightly re-located since the signing of the contract. Brands such as Apple, Beats,
Canon, Samsung and Microsoft were all represented in the outlet; it features a wide range of products from iPads, laptops, mobile phones, cameras, smart watches, hairdryers, headphones and speakers.
