DIY WEEK AWARDS 2025 WINNERS DIY WEEK AWARDS 2018
Retailer of the Year Daymans DIY
Daymans DIY is a family run DIY and hardware store which has been based in the heart of Leicester since 1928. The business has been handed down through the generations of the Dayman family over the years. Founded by William Edward Dayman in 1928 on the same road that the shop is based today. The shop is currently run by Steve Dayman (3rd generation) and Adam Dayman (4th generation) with Olivia (4th generation) assisting with the website.
Excellent personal customer service is at the heart of the business. Daymans see themselves as part of the community and assist many local charity projects both through its annual Christmas charity raffle or throughout the year with projects where they offer free materials or large discounts to support these charities. Daymans has been able to raise thousands of pounds for local and national charities which are close to its heart.
The biggest service the business provides is support and advice. Their customers use them because they trust that they are there to help them and not just make the biggest sale. They will happily talk through the best way with how to complete some DIY jobs or how to use a product in store, no matter the value of the item. One service Daymans offers is buying just what you need, not the whole pack. What they mean by this is if you want to buy one screw or bolt then they will provide you with this. Another service they offer is free wood cutting. Much like above they will cut timber and sheet materials to the sizes customers need to save them a job and the cost. In 2020 Daymans launched a website which was a huge moment in the business’s history. They are extremely proud of the website and have published every product and post themselves and not outsourced any of it. This means they are in full control of their website and can tailor it as they wish. They now have over 5,300 products and counting on the website for their customers to buy locally or nationally. Finally, they offer an order-in service. So, if they don’t stock a product
