Sales of ‘mini’ greenhouses increase due to urban gardening and downsizing trends
Historic greenhouse and glasshouse manufacturer Hartley Botanic, has experienced a marked increase in sales of its compact Patio Glasshouse this year, with numbers more than doubling compared to the same period in previous years. The surge in demand has been driven by those with limited outdoor space who are looking for new ways to garden and grow their own food. Hartley Botanic’s Patio Glasshouse, provides a mini Glasshouse growing environment suitable for the space limitations of city dwellers and for those who may have downsized. The increase in interest from customers living in cities reflects urban gardening trends, especially those involving maximising the smallest of garden areas. In 2024, container gardening was also cited as a key trend for the same reason. The Patio Glasshouse, at just 735mm wide, 1270mm long and 1384mm high, is a space- saving marvel that can neatly fit on roof gardens, terraces and even balconies. Tom Barry, CEO of Hartley Botanic, said: “This year’s significant rise in Patio Glasshouse sales highlights a growing desire among city dwellers and those with compact gardens to do more. As

Jenny Davis from The Posh Shed Company says: “If you love being by the seaside, this is the ultimate garden accessory. It was inspired by chats with landscape designers who wanted a shed that said ‘coast’. It has a fab veranda that’s just the ticket for leaving garden tools, or even bucket and spades, and there is plenty of room inside for deckchairs and other garden accessories.”
And like the colourful beach huts that line the coast, the Southwold is available in seven different colours: Sage Whisper, Warm Wheat, Soft Linen, Dove Grey, Thunderstorm, Mistral Blue and Harbour Haze. Size-wise, it measures 5ft by 8ft, and is available in three finishes: Posh, Comfortably Posh and Unbelievably Posh. Comfortably Posh offers the addition of insulation to the walls and roof, and tongue and groove boarding on the side, while Unbelievably Posh versions boast guttering with a water butt, internal shelving and rodent proof flooring. The Southwold is available now
from The Posh Shed Company, with retail prices starting at £5,999.
