RANGE REVIEW: PEST CONTROL
The Kerminator has been extremely well engineered and is manufactured from high quality materials
sealed the deal. So a DIY retail environment that can get the Kerminator into the hands of potential customers would certainly be of interest to us.
The Kerminator uses pyrethroid insecticide, which is the main product used by professional pest controllers following the withdrawal of Ficam D
and treatment. Fundamentally, the Kerminator Wasp Lance bridges the gap between current DIY wasp nest treatments, and the application devices professionals are using out in the field.
I do not advocate the destruction of all wasp nests; wasps have an important ecological role to play; but whilst millions of 300g bottles of wasp nest powder are sold in the UK each year, and the search term ‘how to kill a wasp nest’ continues to serve up a multitude of amateur videos on YouTube, I believe it’s about time everyone is able to safely treat their own wasp nest like a pro!
NM: What insecticide do you use with the Kerminator? JK: We use a pyrethroid insecticide, which is the main product used by professional pest controllers following the withdrawal of Ficam D last year (the pro product of choice for the last 30 years). The Kerminator is unlike any DIY or professional treatment device in that it combines a measured dose of insecticide with a targeting system that ensures the powder is

quickly delivered to the right place. This is a far more efficient and environmentally conscious way to administer an insecticide. It also keeps the powder away from the user and non target species.
NM: What opportunities exist for DIY retailers to stock the Kerminator? Do you offer trade discounts etc? JK: We currently sell our products exclusively through online channels, however we would be delighted to talk to any interested DIY retailers about stocking our product as online marketing does have limitations when it comes to a product like ours. We recently hosted a stand at the South of England Show, where we were able to have face-to-face conversations with homeowners about their issues with wasp nests. All the visitors to our stand were surprised at how light the Kerminator was when they held it for the first time, and also highlighted how robust the component parts were. However, for many, it was our demonstration of the Kerminator in action that
NM: How do you see the product developing? Will there be variations of the Kerminator available? JK: It was once suggested that we considered developing a second, cheaper version of the Kerminator so we could appeal to the lower household budget, however having conducted extensive customer research during the earliest stages of product development it was clear that our customers were after a well made, reusable tool that would last, and they were prepared to pay more for it knowing it would be cost efficient in the long term. Our customer reviews certainly echo this, with one of our earliest reviewers describing the Kerminator as so well made it ‘resembles the interior of a Pagani Hypercar’! We currently sell UK wide, and
have received orders as far north as Inverness, however we know that there are plenty of wasp and hornet issues across Europe and beyond. We are a young company but we are ambitious, so at this stage our plans are less about product development and more about expanding our reach into key overseas territories.
NM: Do you intend to launch other pest control products in the future under the Pest Control Solutions brand? JK: Yes. As a company, we believe that when chemistry and great product design work in harmony it is possible to develop safe, better targeted and more environmentally conscious DIY pest control solutions, and this will remain the key driver for all future product development.
