LANDSCAPING
TALASEY GOES FOR GROWTH

ilestones are a great time to reflect on where you’ve come from – and where you’re going. That’s according to Rebecca
Hughes, marketing director at Talasey, the landscaping supplier celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. She says: “Who would have thought that we’d grow to become a team of 90, based from a head office with incredible facilities, that is a BMF Centre of Excellence?
“Our growth has been fuelled by our ability to offer merchants quality products, at the right time and at the right price. And all backed up with high levels of support and service, which enable our merchant customers to have complete confidence in the landscaping solutions that they sell to their trade customers and members of the public.”
Hughes highlights that good timing also helped. The introduction of the company’s Natural Paving range came at a time when homeowners were turning their backs on concrete paving and look for new materials to use in their outdoor spaces. As time went on and as the market grew, Natural Paving developed, meaning the company was able to refine its stone landscaping materials to meet demand. “We understand that you can’t rest on your laurels, and the introduction of our Pavetuf brand fulfilled two objectives,” says Hughes. “The first was to have a complementary range of products to aid the installation, maintenance

and protection of hard landscaping. “The second was to offer landscapers and installers a complete solution – which made it easier to complete their projects with confidence and support from our ‘full system.’ “The popularity of Natural Paving and Pavetuf really helped us carve out a piece of the landscaping materials sector – but we have always been obsessed with what’s next, and that’s where porcelain came in.” She points out that, porcelain is a good material for outdoor spaces because it offers a quality finish and is the reason for why it launched its VitriPiazza range, to offer an impressive collection of vitrified porcelain paving and porcelain wall cladding. Talasey has also launched its Laxigraze, a collection of artificial grass products designed for all-year-round, low-maintenance gardens, along with a range of installations and cleaning products.
“So, as a recap, we were still trading as Natural Paving but offering three other separate product brands – so it made sense seven years ago to change the name of the business to Talasey. This is the umbrella brand that has a stable of product brands: Natural Paving, Pavetuf, Vitripiazza and Luxigraze,” Hughes says.
“Having Talasey as the overarching business brand made it so much easier when we launched Piranha – a responsibly sourced range of products designed to create attractive, durable, practical and low-maintenance
outdoor flooring, wall cladding and fencing solutions. All Piranha products are 100% FSC® certified (all Piranha products are FSC® certified, FSC®
100% C154335).”
She states that one of the key things to its success is the relationships it has with its merchant customers, especially the feedback they receive about its products.
Continuing that it is always wanting to hear from its customers about colours, sizes, styles and anything that can help it improve. Hughes adds: “Take our Vitripiazza collection as an example. Last year, we introduced two new collections: Cava Quartz and Bellezza Lite - which both came in three colours and in 600x600 mm and 900x600 mm sizes. “Both were big hits, but it was the 16 mm thick Bellezza Lite that garnered significant attention because of its aesthetic appeal and economic, installation and environmental benefits.
“For this year, we’re meeting demand for larger-format products and introduced two additional 800 x 800 mm ranges – Anno Lite, which is 16 mm thick (available in three colours) and Sofia, a 20mm thick option (also in three colours with a marble effect finish). Due to the popularity of Bellezza Lite, we have also added an 800x800mm paver into that range too. “Looking back enables makes us realise how far the company has come. Anyone that has been to our head office in Scunthorpe will see that we have bags of ambition to strengthen our position in the UK landscaping market.” BMJ
