PEOPLE 10 MINUTES WITH:

What is your current role and how long have you been doing it? I have been the Head of Sales – Trade Professional Channel UK&I for Yale UK for almost a year and a half.

What does your role entail? I am responsible for the sales performance for sales into the Professional Channel which includes Locksmiths, Architectural Ironmongers, Security Distributors and Resellers, Electrical Wholesale and Building Merchants.

How did you get started in this industry? I joined the Security & Access Industry in July 2022 in my current role at Yale. The Yale management team wanted to invest in and re-energise the trade sale team to focus on the opportunities within the Professional Channels.

What roles were you doing before and how did they prepare you for this one? I’ve spent the last 15 years working with wholesalers, resellers, and installers. I’ve held National Account Manager and Project roles for Lighting Manufacturers including Signify (Philips) and Osram. There are many synergies including the customer base and close links to the commercial and residential construction industry. Ultimately the sales process and the importance of building trust and providing value is the same in any industry.

What would you like to achieve in your role? I would like to build a high performing team, that continues to grow our mechanical security business through working with our partners to promote and increase the sales in the most secure solutions, whilst improving the top line turnover and margin for reseller partners.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

I am proud of growing joint business with many of my distributor partners in the lighting industry. Especially those customers that trusted me and we went on the journey of new innovations like LED lighting in the earlier 2010s and IOT connected systems 5 years ago. A special moment was I was part of team that won a European Excellence Award in People Management and represented Signify in a Global Business Excellence Competition.

What do you see as the main issues at the moment?

Price inflation, materials and labour shortages will continue to be key concerns for the construction industry, but I believe the biggest challenges for merchants is finding and retaining talent, so investment in recruitment is key. How professionals’ shop is changing, service expectations are getting higher, so its essential that the merchants provide multiple platforms for their customers to research, purchase

Andy Williamson, has joined The Pallet Loop as director of business development. The former commercial director of SIG PLC has been working with the team for the last six months

Craig Jackman joins the East Yorkshire business as regional account manager for the South East and Phil Hatch has been appointed as regional account manager for the North East.

and interact with experts. Without change and actions, Market Places and Ecommerce platforms will continue to grow and challenge the traditional merchants for their market share.

What piece of advice would you give yourself at the start of your career? Do more networking, do more learning and listen to your customer.

What keeps you busy at the weekends? I play veterans over 35’s football and I am regular visitor to my club Tottenham Hotspurs. I am a big fan of American Football and spend my Sundays watching NFL Redzone and the game of the day.

If you’re at the bar – what are you drinking? Most likely a Guinness or a Spiced Rum and Ginger Ale

What’s your favourite book? Favourite film? I am not a big reader to be honest, but my favourite recent read was Bruce Springsteen Born To Run, which is memoir on his life. Back To The Future is my favourite film, certainly the film I’ve watched the most in my lifetime.
