How Linkedin rant led to full-time job for dad

AN IMPROMTU LinkedIn rant has turned into a full-time job at Derbyshire roofing firm PermaRoof for dad-of-one Lee Moore.

The 36-year-old was between jobs when he signed up to a temporary work agency and was placed on the 6am until 2pm shift at a local food packing manufacturer alongside four other workers. However, by 7am, Moore was the only agency staff member still standing, with the other four quitting in the first hour.

Shocked by what he saw, he took to LinkedIn to vent. His post ended up going viral, racking up more than 120,000 likes, 5,000 comments and hundreds of job offers – including one from Adrian Buttress, managing director at PermaRoof.

Moore said: “I was amazed that people out of work could be so picky; for me, a job is there to keep a roof over my family’s heads, pay the bills and provide food, so I was proud to wear my hair net! I vented my frustration on LinkedIn – it was only supposed to be a rant, but I am still getting notifications for it today, more than a month later.”

Moore – who previously worked in sales for hire and construction companies – has now joined PermaRoof as a specialist products manager. As part of his new role, he will be working in the firm’s modular division, a sector PermaRoof expanded into during the pandemic after supplying fast flat roofing solutions to four emergency NHS projects during the first month of lockdown.

Polypipe pushes forward with RFDA cycling sponsorship

Polypipe is supporting a Yorkshire all-female cycling team in its quest to kick-start a cycling revolution.

The Racescene Female Development Academy is unique in amateur cycling for supporting only female riders.

Polypipe’s sponsorship will enable the RFDA to engage the services of a dedicated team coach

during the season as well as invest in other required kit and infrastructure support for the riders at race events.

The RFDA has already had some of tomorrow’s cycling stars ride with the team since 2018, including Abigail Smith who now rides for British Cycling’s U23 team and is targeting an Olympic appearance in 2024, and National Youth Track Champion Maddie Leach who is also part of British Cycling and on the Olympic Development Programme.

Jason Nightingale, head of marketing at Polypipe Building Products, said: “Polypipe has a long history of supporting Yorkshire teams across a range of sports, and many within the business have fond memories of the Polypipe cycling team which competed until 2016. We’re pleased to be on board with the RFDA in 2021 and will be backing them to continue their excellent progress as they look to reach the next stage of their development”

Vaillant flocks to Derby sculpture sponsorship

Boiler-manufacturer Vaillant is sponsoring one of the sheep sculptures being used in the Ram Trail, due to take place this summer around the city of Derby.

The Ram Trail is a city tour conducted by app and has been designed for Derby by Derby Museums and

Wild in Art. It is being supported by many businesses based in the area.

Each company is the sponsor of one of each of a flock of 30 uniquely painted, five-foot-high sculptures of rams that will be placed around the city. The Ram Trail begins in June 2021, when the sculptures of the rams will be placed at various locations around the city.

More details on the city tour are available at derbyramtrail.org/.
