Counter-terrorism chief to speak at BMF All-Industry Conference


Richard Walton, a former Commander at New Scotland Yard who led London’s Counter Ter- rorism Command during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 is to speak at the BMF All- Industry Conference in Dubrovnik in June. Richard, who spent the majority of his thirty- year policing career in the counter-terrorism field, was Head of the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command (SO15) between 2011-2016. In 2015, he featured in the ‘De- brett’s 500’ list of most influential people in Britain in recognition of his contribution to countering terrorism.

According to “Architects Journal”, some consequences are:

reduction in thermal performance • material shortages because some products have only a few rated as A1 or A2. The decision is misleading for several reasons: • the ban only applies to high-rise buildings eing built now or in the future


• the ban is not retrospective - people who live in non-compliant buildings fitted with combustible insulation are not protected


• flame-retardant timber cladding and cross- laminated timber are not banned for use in buildings below 18 metres


• most schools, hospitals and care homes are not more than 2-3 storeys.


It is better not to refer to the ban when bidding for public contracts. Local councils are likely to misread the announcement and steer clear of specifying certain products.
