STOCK CHECKING MADE EASY WITH MOBILE TECHNOLOG Y

Bowland Stone have used the latest mobile technology to update the way it checks stock.

Border Merchant Systems launched two mo- bile ‘Apps’ for integration with its CounterAct Software a few years ago. Called ‘Mobile Stock Checking’ and ‘Supplier Pur chase Orders’, these apps assist companies to better manage the process of stock data capture and purchase management.

Bristol-based landscaping, stone and

aggegates company Bowland Stone, is one Border customer to see the benefits of using the Mobile Stock Checking App for managing and controlling its stock efficiently.

Ian Elston, managing director at Bowland Stone, explains how the App has made a dif- ference to the way the company is managng its stock.

“We hold stock at multiple locations in the Bristol area,” he says.

“The mobile stock app has helped improve stock control and made the process of col- lecting the information a lot easier.

“We can count stock at the point of view, and the data is easy to scan and enter. There is no need for paper forms or data replica- tion as the information integrates with the CounterAct Software and we have a com- pleted stock take immediately on the system. This has freed up manual hours and greatly enhanced the previous, often arduous, task of stock checking.”

How it works

The Apps are available on Android de- vices and can be used on smart phones or tablets.

The Stock Checking App can be used to create and recall a spot check, or perform a full stock check. Generating a stock check produces a list of prod- ucts to be checked. The App can also use the built in camera on the phone or tablet to read bar codes on prod- ucts, or users can connect a wireless bar code r eader to the device instead.

Benefits of electronic stock data collection For Bowland Stone, Elston says that the company now has a much speedier and efficient stock control process, thanks to the app.

“Overall, we have a more effective capture of data, from supply chain to dispatch” he says.

“Our relationship with Border has

been pivotal to the implementation of the new app. We find them approachable, personable and quick to react to our require- ments, getting things done, when it mat- ters.”

Border says it will continue to develop further apps in the future: Elson adds: “We will certainly be

embracing further Apps from Border in the future. We are particularly interested in the POD App for delivery recording, which is on the development roadmap.”
