Emma Ward is business development director at Keyline. She tells Fiona Russell Horne how she got into the industry, why she stays and what she loves about it.

mma Ward studied sports development at university. So, naturally, she’s busy building a career in construction. Currently Business Development Director at Keyline, Ward found herself in merchanting by accident, like so many other people have done.
“While I was at university I worked part-time in Debenhams, and when I finished university and was looking for a full-time job, a lady I had worked with said that her husband was looking for someone in his company. She said he wanted someone a bit different, someone who was a bit bubbly and lively. I thought, ‘Well, that sounds like me. I’ll apply and see what happens’. I wanted something nice and steady, 8-5, Monday to Friday to ease myself into the working environment. 15 years later, I’m still in this industry.”
That company was WT Burden and Ward was appointed Internal Sales Negotiator looking after pressure pipelines. She moved to Frasers after a while, as she wanted more of an external sales role, an avenue not open to her
