The reception, held on February 25 at the House of Commons, brought together ministers, MPs and peers with senior leaders

Youth Guarantee: bridging the talent gap
With many businesses struggling to attract and retain the next generation of talent, a new government initiative, the Youth Guarantee, aims to offer employers practical support to recruit and train young people. Backed by more than £1.5 billion in funding over the next three years, the programme is designed to ensure every young person aged 16 to 24 has the opportunity to earn and learn. This
includes £820 million dedicated to the Youth Guarantee itself and a further £725 million through the Growth and Skills Levy.
For builders’ merchants, the initiative presents a valuable opportunity to strengthen workforce pipelines, bring new talent into the sector and address long-term skills shortages. The Youth Guarantee

new measures to help young people become work-ready. Builders’ merchants can get involved by offering apprenticeships, providing work experience placements, supporting training programmes or working with Jobcentre teams to connect with local candidates. By engaging with the initiative, businesses have the opportunity not only to address their own recruitment needs but also to
help build a stronger, more sustainable workforce for the wider construction industry. For more information, visit the government website or contact
