Denby moves towards administration as #SaveDenby campaign gains momentum

enowned British pottery manufacturer Denby has confirmed it intends to appoint administrators, as rising costs and challenging market conditions place increasing pressure on


the business. Founded in 1809 and based in Derbyshire, the company has filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators as a precaution while it continues to seek new investment. Denby, which was previously rescued in 2009 by Hilco Capital, said it has struggled with reduced consumer demand, rising employment costs and soaring energy prices.


The company stated it has so far been unable to secure a


strategic investment partner aligned with the long-term vision of its historic brands, though efforts to find funding, restructuring options or potential partnerships remain ongoing. Despite the move, Denby confirmed it will continue trading, along with subsidiary


Burgess & Leigh and its international operations. The announcement


has prompted concern among employees and industry figures. GMB union organiser Craig Thomson described it as a “worrying time” and renewed calls for government support, particularly around energy costs affecting the UK ceramics sector. In response, a growing #SaveDenby campaign has emerged


across social media, with supporters, customers and local communities highlighting the brand’s heritage and urging intervention to protect jobs and British manufacturing. Local MP Linsey Farnsworth has also engaged with the company and government, stressing Denby remains a viable, world-class manufacturer as efforts continue to secure its future.

Pepper Hill Garden Centre in Kent, Staplehurst Garden Centre in


Kent and Alton Garden Centre in Hampshire have officially joined the British Garden Centres family, taking the group’s nationwide total to 78 centres. The acquisition marks another milestone for the family-run


business, which has continued to expand its footprint across the UK garden retail sector in recent years. British Garden Centres said the move reflects its ongoing ambition


to grow the brand while strengthening its community-focused approach to garden retail.
