COOKWARE

Don’t stop be-leavin’... the pan on the hob!

Today’s home cooks are more informed, more experimental and more selective about the cookware they buy. As demand grows for safer materials, long-lasting performance and versatile designs, brands are responding with products built for modern kitchens and modern cooking habits.

H

ome cooking remains firmly embedded in consumer’s lifestyles, but the way they approach cookware is evolving. Shoppers are more informed, more selective and increasingly motivated by

performance, health considerations and long-term value. Rather than simply replacing worn-out pans, many are actively upgrading, seeking products that make cooking easier, more efficient and more enjoyable.. Material transparency has become a key factor in purchasing decisions. Growing awareness of PFAS chemicals used in some non- stick coatings has prompted consumers to pay closer attention to what their cookware is made from. As a result, interest in PFAS-free ceramic non-stick and uncoated stainless steel continues to rise, with shoppers seeking reassurance around both safety and durability. At the same time, consumers are becoming more confident and experimental in the kitchen. More than half of UK shoppers are trying new recipes and cooking styles at home, influenced by social media, food creators and TV chefs. This shift is driving demand for cookware that delivers professional-style results, from even heat distribution to versatile pieces that move seamlessly from hob to oven to table. Sustainability and longevity are also shaping behaviour. Rather than buying large sets by default, many consumers are choosing fewer, higher-quality pieces designed to last and perform multiple functions. Space-saving formats, induction compatibility and multifunctional designs are particularly appealing as households adapt to smaller kitchens and evolving cooking habits. Together, these trends are reshaping the cookware category, with

brands responding through innovations in materials, design and functionality.

Lasting value

Consumer demand continues to be shaped by performance, safety and durability. According to Marie Dobbels, Marketing Director Retail at The Cookware Company, ceramic non-stick remains one of the fastest- growing segments. “Ceramic non-stick continues to grow strongly due to heightened

awareness around PFAS-free cookware,” she says. “At the same time, stainless steel is seeing renewed interest thanks to its durability and professional appeal. Consumers are looking for cookware that feels safe, performs consistently and allows them to move easily from everyday cooking to more ambitious meals.” Innovation is increasingly focused on energy efficiency and versatility.

Many ranges now feature induction-ready bases and improved heat distribution to reduce energy consumption and cooking times. “Our cookware is designed with excellent heat distribution and induction-compatible bases to minimise energy waste,” Ms Dobbels

explains. “Many pieces are oven-safe too, enabling seamless oven-to- table use, while ceramic coatings allow for easy cleaning without harsh chemicals.” Purchasing patterns are also evolving. Both individual “hero” pans and

curated sets are performing well, reflecting a more considered approach to buying. “We’re seeing strong demand for standout individual pieces, as consumers appreciate the flexibility of starting with key items,” she says. “At the same time, curated sets remain popular, particularly when they offer a clear sustainability story.” The influence of professional kitchens continues to shape expectations. “Inspired by chefs and food creators, home cooks are increasingly looking for cookware that performs like professional tools,” Ms Dobbels adds. “Our stainless steel ranges with PFAS-free ceramic non-stick coatings offer that professional feel while remaining accessible and suitable for everyday kitchens.” Design is also playing a larger role. “Muted, sophisticated tones such
