Habitat MD Clare Askem steps down


Habitat managing director Clare Askem has resigned from her role at the homeware chain after eight years. In a statement,


Habitat said: ‘Clare has decided that the time is right to leave the business and Sainsbury’s commercial director of general merchandise & clothing James Brown will take on responsibility for Habitat.’ James commented: “I’d like to thank Clare for her contribution to building the Habitat brand over many years, most recently as managing director. We wish her all the best for the future.” Clare joined Home Retail Group In 2006 as head of strategic development, and was promoted to director of strategic development in 2009. She was appointed managing director of Habitat in 2011. Prior to this, she spent six years at BET plc followed by five years at Dixons Carphone, starting as group advertising director and progressing to buying & operations director of the entertainment division.


Denby takes bronze for river protection


Denby has been recognised as a River- Friendly Business thanks to its efforts to tackle water pollution and protect local brooks. Run by charity Trent Rivers Trust and


backed by the Environment Agency and Severn Trent, the River-Friendly Business accreditation scheme awards businesses within the Trent catchment Bronze, Silver and Gold status for helping to improve their local water environment. Denby, which is based in the village of

Home Hardware raises £1,300 for charities


Members, suppliers and staff at Home Hardware’s Convention Trade Show, held on November 15 at The Woolacombe Bay Hotel in Devon, raised £1,300 for charities. A total of £300 was raised for Children in Need in a draw

The judges agreed that as well as having ‘a very attractive, colourful, well merchandised’ stand, Prices Candles staff demonstrated ‘excellent product knowledge and enthusiasm’ for their new ranges. David Adams said: “This show is the perfect start to our Convention weekend. It’s in everyone’s interest that suppliers take pride in their stands - and Price’s Candles’ hard work didn’t go unnoticed.”
