hilst the Alexa-controlled microwave has been announced, I think we need to be cautious about the kitchen of


the future being connected to the internet just for the sake of it, rather than because it really makes our lives easier. However, if you don’t want to turn on your slow


cooker until 10.30 in the morning - when you’re already at work - why shouldn’t you be able to do this via an app on your smartphone? That’s the sort of technology that really makes sense. Putting a coffee machine on from your bedroom,


before your morning shower, is another obvious sensible use of the connected home. But is an app-enabled kettle any better than pressing the ‘on’ switch?

This appliance can do both functions simultaneously, allowing you to cook roast potatoes in a matter of minutes, ensuring they’re perfectly fluffy on the inside - thanks to the microwave function – but also beautifully crispy on the outside - thanks to the oven.

Poachpod: During the last decade, breakfast has become an ever more important - and Instagrammed - meal. And the perfect poached egg, whether it’s part of eggs Benedict or atop a smashed avocado, is one of the trickiest things to get right. Not with a Poachpod. Catering quality and an instantly recognisable shade of blue, they are even the piping bag of choice for some of TV’s most popular baking shows.


Remoska: Developed in what was then Czechoslovakia in the 1950s as a super-efficient replacement for everyday ovens, the Remoska cooker looks like a deep frying pan with a lid, but works like an electric oven, with an element in the lid that does the cooking.
