Five of the fi rst Ideal Commercial Imax Xtra EL 1240 KW boilers were installed at Wren Kitchens 1,000,000ft2 manufacturing facility in Barton-upon-Humber, North Lincolnshire, by mechanical engineering company, NTI Yorkshire. Since its launch in 2009, Wren Kitchens has become the UK’s number one kitchen retailer with more than 60 showrooms nationwide. The design and build of the new boiler house comes as part of a £80m expansion plan that began last year, bringing the number of local people working at Wren to 2,000. The company currently employs more than 4,000 people in total and has delivered over £1bn of kitchens across the UK. Part of the manufacturing line requires
constant hot water to be fed through process pipework to heater batteries that humidify the air to spray paint various kitchen components such as doors, drawers and furniture. These machines are built in-situ due to their vast size, meaning space was at a premium for any supporting infrastructure on the production fl oor. NTI Yorkshire was brought in to design and manage the installation of the mechanical services due to managing director Neville
Tucker’s long-standing relationship with the company. The design team was headed by Tony Paton who consulted their preferred commercial boiler manufacturer, Ideal Commercial Boilers, at the start of the project. The team worked collaboratively to determine the system needs and identify a solution that would fi t into the limited space available. Ideal Commercial’s most recently launched
product, the Imax Xtra EL, was specifi ed due to its compact size and lightweight package for ease of installation. Featuring an aluminium silicon alloy heat exchanger, Imax Xtra EL is suitable for fully pumped, open-vented or pressurised systems and was the fi rst fl oor standing boiler in the UK to achieve a Class 6 NOx rating. In this instance, the availability of the higher output dual units allowed fewer to be installed in order to provide the required duty and fi t into a smaller footprint. Neville Tucker has worked alongside Ideal Commercial since 1973 and said: “Ideal Commercial has always been our manufacturer of choice because of its quality of equipment and reliable history. boilers is available in 10 models with outputs from 320 to 1240kW and is suitable for fl oor standing applications in either single or multiple installations.

The Evomax, Imax Xtra, Imax Xtra EL and Evo- mod ranges are all listed on the Energy Technology List (ETL), which demands a minimum of 108% part load effi ciency, making them eligible for the En- hanced Capital Allowance scheme. This off ers end users a tax off set against the cost of the boilers. Ideal Commercial Boilers already has some of the most effi cient boilers on the market, which have easily met the ErP’s stringent 2015 require- ments and completely comply with the forth- coming 2018 regulations. The Ideal Commercial Boilers UK-based R&D team is constantly looking at innovative ways of increasing system effi ciency via advanced controls and system components.
