Evacuating flue gases safely is a daily challenge for flue specialist Specflue and the company strives to implement innovative solutions while complying with legislation, says commercial director, Ian Sams
Who is Specflue?
Specflue is a UK independent, family-run supplier of flue, chimney and renewable heat solutions, supplying the UK market since 1992. Based at Sudbury, Honiton and Castleford, the company prides itself on offering experience and knowledge of the market, as well as appropriate and accurate advice. offers technical and installation advice on its variety of flue, chimney and renewable heat products. Reliable supply – It has a large own-van fleet supported by a nationwide carrier network. Specflue spends time and money on packaging to ensure that products arrive not only on time, but also in perfect working condition. Quick and easy – Specflue offers next day delivery on the majority of stocked products (Highlands and islands may vary). Help and training – The company operates a
large HETAS, BPEC and CIPHE-accredited training facility in the UK which offers training to staff and the industry. This has recently been enhanced with a £20,000 purpose-built practical enrichment area. The training centre is accredited by the Royal Life Saving Centre and provides first aid training for staff and a range of courses for customers. Trained, experienced and knowledgeable staff – All customer service employees are undertaking NVQ level 3 customer service, and all managers complete ILM level 3 award in leadership and management. Warehouse staff have completed RTITB forklift training. Accurate information – Specflue has more than
100 years of combined experience and prides itself on being able to provide solutions for any scenario, no matter how complex, enabling customers to meet all relevant building regulations. “Specflue’s core values are service, product quality

What is your product range and typical customer?
With more than 8,700m2 of warehousing, Specflue
holds around £2 million of flue and chimney products, from domestic twin wall stainless steel chimney systems to specialist plastic commercial flue. It has a comprehensive and inclusive product range with around 5,800 stock items, including flexible flue liners, chimney cowls and single wall and twin wall flue systems for solid fuel, gas and oil. Specflue also stocks a variety of renewable heat
products including a contemporary wood burning stove range and state-of-the-art biomass pellet appliances, solar thermal, thermal stores and heat interface units.
All sales and technical staff are HETAS qualified
and regularly take part in on-going training sessions. Nine external sales representatives work throughout the UK providing on-site support and information. There are also four advanced technical support and five internal technical and application support staff. Specflue operates its own fleet of around 25 vans
covering the UK with occasional courier use, so it is able to offer next working day delivery on stocked items if ordered before 4pm (England and Wales) or 2.30pm (Scotland).
A full design and application service is provided
free of charge using industry specific programs such as Kesa Aladdin and our own FlueCalc. Installation drawings are produced using AutoCad.

“At this time of year we are busy supporting commercial H&V contractors with school and factory refurbishments. Our survey and design services support these installers when they are on-site fitting a boiler and flue installation into a potentially crowded area. We can either design from drawings or survey,” says Mr Sams.
