One qualification has been designed for gas engineers responsible for auditing gas work, in order to check it is safe and has been carried out correctly - a particular requirement for social housing properties. The second is specifically for businesses that carry out audits of their own or other business’s operations as part of their work management procedures.

sponsors, providing branded cupcakes, stationery and notepads to the event. Spirotech sales representative, Corine Kuijpers (pictured), will be offering live demonstrations of some of the brand’s market leading domestic product

range including the pioneering SpiroVent RV2 deaerator. Also at the event will be the SpiroTrap MB3, Spirotech’s renowned offering in the field of dirt separation, as well as the brand’s latest innovation, the MBC1. Ms Kuijpers first met Ms Hassan and the female plumbers of Stopcocks last September to deliver a presentation on Spirotech and its products, and has maintained a strong relationship with the company ever since.
Corine said: “The conference is an opportunity for Spirotech to support an important issue within our industry, whilst also giving us the chance to showcase a selection of our products. Spirotech shares many of the same
values with Stopcocks, with a mutual focus on quality of customer service. “We strive to stay progressive and would like to see more women join the trade. Much like our deaeration and dirt separation products, our sponsorship of the WIT Conference is one of many examples of how Spirotech is at the forefront of innovation in an ever evolving industry.”

CALL TO REVIEW DOMESTIC HEAT POLICY
call on government to urgently review current heat policy. According to the latest quarterly

data from the Sutherland Tables, a recognised independent source of comparative UK domestic heating prices, oil remains by far the cheapest of all major home heating fuels, with average annual costs in Great Britain falling 10% in the last quarter to just £840. OFTEC chief executive Paul Rose
OFTEC has marked the 15th anniversary of its industry recognised Competent Persons Scheme with the news that registration numbers have hit the highest level since 2013.

But it isn’t hard to see why enthusiasm for these technologies remains low given that both installation and running costs

remain far higher than those for high efficiency oil boilers. “With further increases in electricity costs expected from September and widely agreed predictions that oil prices will remain low for some time, it’s unlikely this position will change in the near future. “For this reason we are urging government to be realistic and work with the situation we currently have rather than pursuing impractical ideals. Consumers need cost effective solutions to start reducing carbon emissions from heating now.” OFTEC has put forward proposals to government to introduce a nationwide boiler replacement programme to help the 400,000 households in Great Britain still relying on standard efficiency oil boilers to upgrade to high efficiency condensing models. This would provide an affordable, practical and therefore palatable short-term

solution to help consumers reduce carbon emissions and cut fuel bills, whilst OFTEC seeks to bring to market a low carbon liquid fuel to replace kerosene as a sustainable medium to long term solution. The latest hike in electricity prices
could also push more households into fuel poverty this winter, especially in rural areas where fuel poverty is already more prevalent. Mr Rose continues: “It is shocking that in 2017, there are still some 2.5 million households classified as fuel poor. On average, these families experience a shortfall of around £350 between the cost of their fuel bills and what they can actually afford to pay. “Whilst we realise that boiler
replacement for households already in fuel poverty would be difficult to afford, even with financial assistance, the short term roll out of such a scheme could prevent many others who are just managing, from crossing that line.”
