increasingly high standards of energy efficiency. This is a highly efficient way of converting reduced carbon grid electricity directly into heat.
High performance
Heat pumps will be the leading technology in the move to electric solutions, but there will also be a significant role for electric water heaters in certain applications – often in tandem with heat pumps. Therefore, at Lochinvar we have developed a new range of high performance electric floor standing storage water heaters for commercial and large residential applications.
Cavalier water heaters are available in seven models, all of which meet the requirements of the EcoDesign (ErP) directive for energy efficient performance. These fully packaged water heaters represent a significant advance for electric water heating technology because they feature factory-fitted multiple immersion elements that considerably speed up hot water production.
This ranges from three 3kW elements in the lowest output model (9Kw) up to nine
Water heating
6kW elements powering the highest output (54kW) water heater, which is capable of providing up to 929 litres of continuous hot water per hour at a temperature rise of 50ºC. The immersion elements operate in sequence to provide fast recovery of hot water and better efficiency, especially during off-peak demand periods. The independent operation of each element provides stand-by in the unlikely event of any individual element failure.
Cavalier water heaters also work well with heat pumps as part of a ‘hybrid’ system, making them ideal for projects requiring a hot water solution with zero on-site emissions. As they do not produce any on-site carbon or NOx emissions, they are also BREEAM and ‘London Plan’ compliant. High efficiency electric products like this have a promising future because they offer a convenient installation choice in many new build projects where zero on-site emissions are a priority.
The rapid decarbonisation of UK electricity supplies is further strengthening their case and – when combined with heat pumps – they tick even more boxes for energy, environmental protection and running costs.
All-electric solutions will prove increasingly popular on the road to net zero. H C
NEW RANGE OF ELECTRIC WATER HEATERS LAUNCHED FOR UK MARKET eating product manufacturer Stiebel
Eltron has launched two new compact instantaneous electric water heaters in its
DCE range to the UK market.
The DCE-X Premium offers users temperatures which can be set between 20 and 60˚C in 0.5˚C intervals. The system also has two memory keys installed so that it can remember frequently used
temperature settings and activate an ‘eco’ mode which offers increased energy efficiency giving users control over their heating preferences and energy bills.
Each unit is held within a space-saving housing and has been designed with rapid installation technology, making them suitable for high-density, city-centre developments in which space is at
New direct-fired water heaters ommercial boiler manufacturer and water heating
specialist Hamworthy Heating, has extended its Dorchester range of direct fired water heaters to include the DR-LL and DR-XP which are available now. The Dorchester DR-LL is an atmospheric low NOx water heater which was designed to meet the requirements of ErP regulations and refurbishment projects alike: It can be used on old systems with existing flues (the draught diverter will require changing), saving
on costs for flue replacement. If the existing system is a flue cascade, then the appliances and draught diverter will require replacement to comply with BS6644 & IGEM UP10. The integral stainless steel burner produces low NOx emissions (34-45 mg/kWh) and benefits from an automatic gas/air premix burning system for increased efficiency. The Dorchester DR-XP is a condensing water heater with stainless steel tank available in two models (38-50kW input) of 184 litres. With an ErP e fficiency of 91% - 93% and NOx emissions ≤ 53 mg/kWh, it is compliant with the latest ErP regulations that were further restricted in 2018.
Thanks to the grade 444 stainless steel tanks, no anodes are required to protect it from corrosion. This makes it a great choice for soft water areas. With an operation temperature of up to 85°C, stored hot water stretches further (up to 15%) thanks to mixing. As fully room-sealed appliance, it can be sited in small compartmental areas. Flexible flue options mean the water heater can be installed almost anywhere. For easy servicing, all components are accessible from the front.
a premium. The range includes the DCE-S Plus which offers economical hot water and high energy efficiency for both residential and commercial use. Mark McManus, Stiebel Eltron UK MD, said: “Sustainable water heating solutions like the DCE range will play a key role in decarbonisation by offering the opportunity to supply hot water powered by electricity generated by renewable means.”
