many reasons to choose Aspen. Our tank pump and supermarket pump ranges have also grown over the years. We have some really exciting products coming through the pipeline, so watch this space. But it is not all pumps at Aspen. We very much believe in the strength of brand and product quality which is why we were delighted to have Advanced (chemicals) and JAVAC (tools) join the group brand family in recent years.

We developed our own range of Xtra installation accessories some years ago and again the depth of that range, just as with pumps, makes it such a ‘go to’ option of HVAC installers. Finally, our Big Foot non-penetrative roof support systems have gone from strength to strength due to our in-house detailed engineering knowledge driving project success. All of our products are sold through wholesalers but we always have the installer in mind when developing our range.

Which or your products/services are in high demand?

We see high demand across all of our categories driven by outstanding year-on-year growth in the cooling sector generally. The planet is becoming warmer and demand profiles are changing. Cooling

is no longer a luxury and is increasingly seen as a necessity. For example, consecutive hot summers in Europe have driven much more domestic demand for cooling. This is where our Silent + mini pumps have come to the fore because domestic applications are much more noise sensitive. Because of our extensive range of application and installation options, there is an Aspen pump suitable for any situation.

What are the modern day HVAC challenges you face?

Commercial buildings have been subject to quite extensive Government policy intervention over the past decade. Naturally, fire regulations are having a big impact on pump demand as builders are trying to reduce incidence of internal and external wall penetration which in turn reduces the options for a gravity condensate drain. Energy efficiency regulations also impact on construction techniques which not only has a knock-on effect to pump demand due to gravity feed constraints, but also increases demand for active cooling. What is interesting is how progressive building regulations may change the way we maintain and service our existing buildings. System inspections are not a new thing in the construction industry, but I fully expect this to have a growing effect on the demand for chemicals and servicing equipment. We already see this with the increasing use of notification schemes to capture building data, this is real progress and a great opportunity for our sector.

You recently won a Queens Award for Enterprise;

International Trade. What does this mean for your business? We are immensely proud to receive our third

Queens Award. The international trade dimension really vindicates our expansion strategy. We are

not an exporter in the common sense; we are an international business with fully owned structures in place to help us reach customers in a way that you just cannot achieve with a centralised export structure. It is particularly important for our team around the world to know that their hard work has been recognised. We have many employees who have been with the business for over a decade, some going right back to the very origins. It is fantastic to see that kind of dedication being rewarded so prestigiously.

What are your future plans? Our path is well set and we will continue to invest

in our business. Our sales structure is growing and we have recently announced our second Australian acquisition, with the addition of Sky Refrigeration to Aspen Pumps Group. Success is limited by a lack of ambition; there is no danger of Aspen resting on its laurels or failing to explore exciting opportunities for organic and bolt-on growth. We never stand still at Aspen and our European expansion has been managed alongside the onset of Brexit. We are living in unprecedented times politically, but regardless of political colour or flavour, cooling and refrigeration are no longer discretionary in the eyes of many businesses and consumers. A strong business with a firm eye on the end customer and a solid distribution platform will be likely to succeed. It should be a very exciting decade ahead!

System inspections are not a new thing in the construction industry, but I fully expect this to have a growing e ff ect on the demand for chemicals and servicing equipment.
