VENDING TECHNOLOGY A technological transformation

The adoption of new technology has resulted in the fast-paced transformation in the vending and automated retail sector. Here VI canvassed some leading suppliers to the industry to learn about the impact of some of these new innovations…

VMC The cashless payment specialist sees new tech as transforming the capabilities of vending, making the customer experience simpler and more seamless, which is the key to boosting sales. Laura Barwell, director of business development manager explains: “Integrating mobile phones and apps into the customer journey opens up lots of new possibilities for vending operators. Apps also get the user more engaged and get your promotional messages directly into their hands. Loyalty schemes and customer rewards can also help to maximise every sales opportunity and encourage repeat purchasing.” Laura continues: “Making small changes on the vending machines can make a big difference too, adding small screens to payment terminals to prompt interaction can improve customer engagement at the point of sale. Our VMC Flex solution, for example, focuses on ways to add value to the customer and the operator, with features that increase sales, make it easier for customers to buy, and give operators useful insight into customer purchasing habits. Itt makes sense to choose a system that does more than just take the payment.”

DROOPLE

When it comes to internet connectivity, Francesco Mercurio from WHA member Droople says: “Everyone knows they would like it, few know they need it, but once you have it; no one wants to be without it. Francesco says: “There has been a sharp

increase in approaches from differing sized water dispenser companies asking for telemetry and monitoring because their customers have requested it as part of the request for quotation or tender. Whilst some

manufacturers are continuing to invest in building their own platform, there are out- of-the-box working solutions available – solutions that can be fitted to any dispenser
