NEWS | Industry Updates Abbeychart extends sales team

with new appointment Abbeychart, the liquid dispense specialist, has appointed Mark Berry to the position of field sales engineer (north) with immediate effect. Mark joins Abbeychart with extensive industry experience, including a previous period at Abbeychart where he undertook a similar role supporting key customer accounts across the north of the country. “It feels like I have never been away,” said Mark. “I’m really looking forward to reconnecting with some familiar faces and to introducing old and new contacts to Abbeychart’s extended offer which now supports Necta, Rhea and Bianchi vending equipment. It’s great to be back!” Abbeychart provides parts and components to the coffee,

water, vending and soft drink industries and also offers workshop services including service kits for installation and maintenance; boiler descaling; plus, bar gun and pump refurbs, providing operators with an alternative to the replacement of costly parts. A recent addition is the Bioguard range of health and hygiene products for coffee and vending operators. Mark Taylor, managing director Abbeychart, said: “Mark is really highly regarded within the industry

and we are therefore delighted that he has joined the sales team at a time when the business is going from strength to strength with a more comprehensive product and service offer. It’s a great time to be joining the business and I wish Mark a long and successful career with the company.”

Vending as a literacy tool

An American elementary school has introduced a vending machine to entice young children to choose and read books. The vending machine is the latest literacy tool at the

Arthur O. Eve Elementary School 61 in Buffalo, according to the Buffalo News. Assistant principal at the school, Unseld Robinson

came up with the plan after hearing about a similar one in Washington D.C. He said: “Many children in Buffalo are not reading as

much as they should, so the thought was to have them look to the vending machine for inspiration.” Global Vending Group was approached to customise one of its vending machines for books and a

process was begun to find books of the right sizes and titles. “We wanted to make literacy exciting and fun,” said principal Parette Walker, “because learning and reading should be fun.”

@ShellStationsUK Vending loses a key figure

Managing director of Park Warren Vending, Terry Fairhead, has died after a long illness. Terry founded Park Warren Vending in 1972 and was a key figure in Associated Vending Services, a concept he devised with John Rowcroft, recruiting the inaugural companies, Garden County Vending, Jones Vending and AGM Caterers. John said Terry was originally a caterer who saw the opportunities for the vending industry in the late 60s. His initial experience was with the British Automatic Company (BAC), then the Gardner Merchant Vending Division which took over BAC business. He was sold on the concept of vending operating, hence starting his own business in 1972. John, who worked with Terry for 30 years, described him as “a good friend and a 'can do' person who will be sorely missed by all who knew him”.
