Feature:Home Entertainment Cosmetically, manufacturers have placed
speakers at the rear. However, the serious element of sound making the difference, flagship models incorporate, side or up facing drivers, albeit screen speakers will somewhat assist forward sound as with the likes of Sony’s Acoustic Surface technology, Samsung’s OTS set-up and Panasonic’s integrated ‘up ‘n’ side’ dispersing speakers. As with all products, limited budgets of consumers regulate the range of sound and vision availability, plus, determine viewing and listening requirements. Obviously, flagship models with higher performance built-in audio demands premium prices.
Listen to the Vision There is no doubt, our two senses working together not just make a difference but make THE difference.
Going big is fantastic with the likes of an AV amplifier, maybe a Denon, Sony, Arcam, Marantz, Onkyo or Yamaha coupled with a surround speaker system from B&W, Wharfedale, Sony, Kef, Q Acoustics or Monitor Audio, but then, its in the realms of specialist AV buff. For volume market sales, the soundbar is the simplest and most cost effective for most as the solution to enhance a better quality and dispersion of the high-quality audio already in existence and bursting to be released from all TV signal transmissions. The soundbar is a plug ‘n’ play aspect, now with a variety of options more than ever before. Whether watching films, dramas, documentaries, the dialogue is enriched, the sound is more wholesome, wider, and richer, with more detail and fidelity. In fact, let’s face it all audio is improved by having a soundbar providing a balance 50/50 mix between the
senses of vision and audio. LISTEN TO THE VISION Besides an actual TV, there is also the consideration of Projection. Again, there is a vast range to suit every environment and budget. One which caught our eye recently was a
unit from TCL, the AI 1080p FHD Smart Portable Projector providing the scope of a screening up to 120-inches. Ideal also for outside entertaining, obviously when the weather permits. Having similar attributes to TCL TVs,
incorporating Google TV and Netflix, this smart projector has immersive sound with Dolby Audio distributed from dual 8-watt speakers. The AI intelligently levels, focuses and
keystones the images for best viewing performance whether watching on a 45-inch or expanding to a 120-inch surface.
2025 and Beyond The TVs of tomorrow will no doubt be wireless, transparent and possibly holographic. Purely an assumption? Maybe not as these developments are already out there, just waiting for the right time to mass produce when the market determines there will be a demand. We already have Rollable OLED TV from
LG along with Transparent OLED TV. In the commercial world, there is already flexible LED panels to create any desired shape and size, then simply fold away for ease of transportation. Kitchen worktops can now be transformed into TV/PC screens as well as any other surface. Technology is fascinating and rapidly
progressing. Now looking forward to what 2025 will bring into the home.
