New data reveals scale of WEEE non-compliance
E
nvironment Agency data released this month has uncovered the scale of WEEE non-compliance of product sold through online marketplaces. For the last four and a half months of 2025, online marketplaces were legally required to report sales of electrical products imported into the UK via their platforms. And that data showed an annual market share of 13.8% for
consumer lamps, and 11.8% for consumer luminaires.
The WEEE regulations were amended last year, and from 12 August 2025 online marketplaces were required to start collecting data for all electrical goods brought into the UK via their platforms. Market shares are calculated using the weight of products placed on the market.

ccording to Freedom of Information data shared recently by Schneider Electric, many local authorities in England are making significant strides in retrofitting their buildings, adopting renewable energy and electrifying infrastructure as part of their net-zero journeys. Despite this, two-thirds are not confident they will achieve targets by 2050, with 79% citing budget constraints as a significant barrier.
The vast majority (95%) of local authorities have retrofitted existing buildings to improve energy efficiency; 83% have electrified infrastructure such as EV charging points, buildings and heating systems; 82% have invested in renewable technologies to decarbonise and 61% are measuring real-time energy usage and performance metrics to identify where costs can be reduced and efficiencies gained.
Whilst nine in ten local authorities (89%) have received either government or private funding for decarbonisation or energy efficiency initiatives in the past three years, there are challenges, including budget constraints, technology and skills shortages could hold them back.
