Interview The rise of Elucian


Barry Taylor, Scolmore Group’s UK sales director, talks about the group’s Elucian success story.


The Elucian range launched in 2021. What drove Scolmore to enter the consumer unit and distribution board market at that time?


We could see a clear opportunity. Installers were asking for a more intuitive, installer-friendly solution that combined robust compliance with thoughtful design. At the same time, wholesalers wanted a brand they could trust - one backed by strong stock availability, technical support and a proven manufacturer. Entering the market with Elucian allowed us to bring Scolmore’s reputation for quality and reliability into a product category that was ready for fresh thinking.


How has the market responded to Elucian since its launch?


The response has been exceptional. We knew there was demand, but the speed of adoption exceeded expectations. Wholesalers quickly embraced the range, and installers have been incredibly positive about the build quality, ease of installation and the clarity of the design. We’ve seen year-on-year growth, and Elucian is now firmly established as a major player in the consumer unit sector.


What do you think has been the biggest factor behind that success?


Listening. We spent a lot of time talking to installers before launch, and we’ve continued that dialogue ever since. Every tweak, every new accessory, every packaging improvement - it all comes from real-world feedback. Combine that with strong wholesaler partnerships and consistent stock availability, and you have a formula that really resonates in the market.


What kind of feedback have you received from installers on the ground? The most common comments are about ease of installation and thoughtful design. Things like generous wiring space, clear labelling, robust construction and accessories that genuinely make life easier. Installers also appreciate that we don’t overcomplicate things - Elucian is engineered to be practical, not gimmicky. That’s been a big differentiator.


How important have wholesalers been in building the Elucian brand? Absolutely vital. Wholesalers are the backbone of

this industry. Their trust in the Scolmore name gave Elucian a strong start, and their ongoing support has helped us scale quickly. We invest heavily in training, merchandising, point-of-sale materials and digital resources to make sure they have everything they need to promote the range confidently.


The range has expanded since 2021. What guided that development? Market demand. As installers began using the range, they asked for additional configurations, accessories and specialist solutions. That feedback has shaped every stage of development. Since launching in 2021, we’ve invested heavily in expanding Elucian - most recently with our new Three Phase Distribution Board collection, which brings a full suite of commercial and industrial solutions to the range.


We’ve added new consumer units, distribution boards, protective devices and complementary products to ensure we cover everything from domestic through to light commercial and now three-phase applications. The direction is simple: we develop where installers and wholesalers tell us there’s a genuine need.


Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in manufacturing. How is Scolmore addressing this within the Elucian range?


Sustainability is a key focus for us. We’ve made improvements in packaging, material efficiency and manufacturing processes to reduce waste and environmental impact. We’re also looking at


how we can further optimise the lifecycle of our products. It’s an ongoing journey, but one we’re fully committed to.


What sets Elucian apart from other brands in the market?


It’s the combination of installer-led design, strong compliance and the backing of a trusted UK manufacturer. Customers know that when they choose Elucian, they’re getting a product that’s been engineered with care, supported by excellent availability and backed by a team that genuinely listens to the market.


What can wholesalers and installers expect next from the Elucian brand? Continued innovation. We’re working on several new developments that will expand the range and address emerging trends in the industry. We’re also investing in more training resources and digital tools to support our customers. The goal is to keep Elucian at the forefront of the market and continue delivering solutions that make installation easier and more efficient.


Finally, what has been the most rewarding part of seeing Elucian grow over the past few years?


Without a doubt, it’s hearing from installers who tell us the range has made their work easier. When you see a product go from concept to widespread adoption - and you know it’s genuinely helping people - that’s incredibly satisfying. It reinforces why we do what we do.
