Reducing administrative burden: what RPS 283 means for you
In 2023, the Environment Agency for England introduced Regulatory Position Statement (RPS) 283, simplifying waste drop-offs at wholesaler branches. Under RPS 283, contractors delivering small quantities of WEEE are not required to provide a Waste Transfer Note or Hazardous Waste Consignment Note.
This does not change the law, but it provides clarity and reduces unnecessary paperwork that
might discourage recycling. For wholesalers, this means:

• You still need to follow all other waste legislation and use authorised collection and recycling partners
