lighting products are reshaping the industry
How multi-option
Off ering versatility, fl exibility and greater stock effi ciency, multi-option lighting products are reshaping specifi cation and purchasing decisions across the industry.
I
n this article, Dominic Harkness, lighting designer at Ansell Lighting, explains why these lighting solutions are gaining traction and the advantages this can bring for electrical wholesalers. Across the lighting market, demand is growing for products that can adapt to multiple applications. Installers and contractors are increasingly requesting fi ttings with settings that can be adjusted on site, allowing a single product to cover a range of scenarios.
The shift is being driven by innovations such as CCT-selectable luminaires which allow installers to switch between diff erent colour temperatures, typically warm white, cool white or daylight, using a simple onboard switch. Similarly, wattage-selectable fi ttings enable the light output to be adjusted depending on the size or function of the space.

lighting function, are also driving demand, moving the industry fi rmly towards fl exible ‘one product fi ts many jobs’ solutions. For contractors, the appeal is clear. Projects rarely go exactly as planned and site conditions can change quickly. A luminaire that allows installers to switch between CCT outputs or adjust wattage during installation removes uncertainty and helps them deliver the right lighting outcome without needing to return to the wholesaler for an alternative product.

Time saving and practical, it means they can purchase just one version of the same fi tting for multiple applications, be it a commercial project or residential installation, completing jobs more effi ciently.
It can also help them to streamline their own stock levels and help with cash fl ow. Instead of carrying several product types in their vans, installers can rely on a smaller number of adaptable fi ttings that cover multiple lighting needs.
Multi-option lighting products are also
benefi cial in terms of sustainability and future- proofi ng. By reducing the need for multiple product variants to be manufactured, transported and stocked, they help minimise material use and product wastage across the supply chain. Specifi ers are increasingly looking for solutions that can accommodate future changes in building use. Multi-option fi ttings allow lighting systems to evolve as spaces are reconfi gured, helping ensure long-term performance and effi ciency while reducing unnecessary product
