How did you get into footwear? Tell us about your background and your current business? As three Mums with nine children between us, we were always looking for good quality children’s shoes that were fitted but slightly unusual. All three of us travelled to find the right shoes for our children, so recognised that Leicester needed a children’s shoe store that offered design-led, fitted shoes with a difference. We had our eye on this particular shop in Narborough, that is now Stomp, for about two years and had been visiting Moda for research purposes before we finally got the premises in 2013. We’re particularly thrilled at the moment to not only be entering our

fourth year of trading, but having recently won the National Shopfront of the Year Award 2017 in the Footwear Industry Awards.

Where are your premises located and how many people do you employ? Do you have a high turnover of staff? Tell us about your shop, the local area, your customers and their requirements? We are located in Narborough, South Leicestershire. We attract local customers, but because of the proximity to the M1, M69, we find that a good many travel to us from across Leicestershire and Warwickshire. Generally, our customers are looking for a good choice of quality, well fitted shoes. They seek us out for something slightly different to what you’d find on the High Street. As there are three of us, we don’t have the need for a huge number of staff; we have Eloise who helps us out part-time and looks after our website too and Emma our Saturday girl.

that is tricky to fill as we find we keep them for just over a year and then they head off to university.

Do you have an online shop/website and do you use social networking for business? Although we are strong advocates of measuring and fitting we do also sell online as this is another revenue stream for us. Many of our customers travel a fair distance to us, and expect us to have a website. We’ve spent a long time getting the website right, so that it gives them the opportunity to select styles, check sizes and have a good idea what to expect when they visit. It’s also a great tool for clearing sale stock too. Social media has and will always play an integral role in the building of

our business, it’s a fantastic way to get your product directly to your customers for free! We are always developing our online presence and update social media daily.

It’s the Saturday position
