NEW SOFT SILICONE FLAT EMI GASKET MATERIAL
A flat, sheet material, comprising a solid silicone rubber, embedded with monel or aluminium metal wires orientated perpendicular to its surface. Excellent RFI/EMI/EMP shielding performance is achieved as the material has a wire density of up to 140 wires/CM2 in solid silicone, providing an environmental and RFI/EMI seal when clamped between two metallic surfaces. These wires are crimped to aid compression and are chemically bonded to ensure their retention. They will also penetrate most light oxide layers, ensuring a low contact resistance path when suitably compressed. For applications with severe joint unevenness, low closure forces, and where greater compressibility is required, Kemtron has developed new grades 470/480 of material to fulfil a need that meets the performance of the company’s oriented wire in silicone sponge, but with improved environmental sealing qualities. Kemtron has achieved this by using a very soft solid silicone with a reduced wire count of 100 wires per cm2
, the same as its silicone sponge. The advantages of
these materials over silicone sponge are that the company can manufacture sheet widths of 150mm with a minimum thickness of 0.8mm. Material consistency is a great advantage over silicone sponge as there is no uneven cell structure to consider that affects moisture ingress and closure force.

LOCK ASSEMBLY SERVICE OFFERS UP TO IP67 SEALING
FDB’s Rocfast programme saves time, money and mistakes by guiding customers through the process of specification, component matching, ordering, assembly, packaging and logistics direct to site. Now it covers the extra sealing requirements of high degrees of dust and water protection up to IP66 and IP67. Most common lock applications require the lower levels of IP54, however in external use IP65 may be needed. For harsh external or heavy hose down areas, IP66 or IP67 is appropriate. IP67 entails submersion testing for even greater peace of mind. The Rocfast service includes all quarter-turn favourites with
appropriate keys and IP rated sealing, cams of all types, traditional L or T handles, swinghandles and compression locks as applicable. This service programme can efficiently deal with modern modular component systems or traditional single kit formats and with one-off or scheduled programme deliveries, as well as separate packaging of locks, backnuts, and keys, to suit logistical requirements. Where required, complete fitting kits can be supplied, including locks, hinges and gaskets, with lock cylinders keys forwarded to a separate destination if desired. Further information on FDB products and services may be found on the website below. Find the latest information and news on the FDB blog (
