Floor standing mild steel combinable enclosures, certified for Seismic Zone 3

Testing and certifying the products to ensure they serve customers in the best possible way is an important part of Eldon’s commitment to providing complete enclosure solutions

I

n collaboration with Virlab, Eldon has performed two seismic tests on its mild

steel combinable enclosure (MCS) range. The tests were performed in accordance with Telcordia GR-64-CORE Issue 4 (March 2012), which due to its high requirements, is the most common standard used by enclosure manufacturers for seismic certifications. Located in Spain, Virlab is accredited by the Spanish National Accreditation Entity (certificate number 54/LE131). Over more than 30 years, the company has acquired extensive experience in seismic and vibration tests, thereby becoming a reference within the industrial sector. The tests were carried out on the

following enclosure configurations: Combinable floor standing enclosure, mounted on a plinth height 100mm, for

seismic zone 3; and combinable floor standing enclosure, equipped with a swing frame and mounted on a plinth height 100mm, for seismic zone 3. By carrying out this

test, Eldon differentiates itself from its competitors, since this configuration is required by electrical substation cabinets. As a result, Eldon’s combinable enclosure range is now certified for Seismic Zone 3, according to Telcordia GR- 64-CORE Issue 4 (March 2012). Tests were carried out on MCS enclosures with dimensions

2,000mm (height) x 800mm (width) x 600mm (depth). Although the enclosure’s certification is only valid for the sizes and configuration tested, Eldon states that other MCS dimensions are also considered as earthquake resistant, without using any seismic accessory, provided that the following criteria are met: • The combinable enclosure has been assembled according to Eldon’s mounting instructions. • The enclosure configuration is at least as stable as the configuration tested; particularly relevant are the height, base area and weight distribution; • The earthquake standard and the frequency spectrum are similar. Scan the QR code and access the white paper – Earthquake, where you will find further details of the seismic tests described above.
