SPONSORS INSTALLATION NEWS
Luceco has recently relit the public areas of the Al Jazira Club, a football club from Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, playing in the UAE Arabian Gulf League.
Al Jazira Club was founded in 1974 through a merger between the Al Khalidiya Club with the Al Butain Club.
Luceco and energy partner, Gargash Lighting Systems, met a design brief which included the need for energy efficient lighting with low maintenance, that would provide the club with cost savings, whilst enhancing the overall experience through more effective lighting.
Carbon Downlights were installed in corridors and lounges at the club, offering an ideal replacement for compact fluorescent downlights, providing running cost savings of more than 60%.
Designed to retrofit ceiling cut outs of common compact fluorescent downlights, the Carbon is also supplied with interchangeable bezel options. Due to the reduction in energy consumption required, LED LuxPanel
luminaires were also installed throughout other facilities including the players’ massage area. Cost effective and energy efficient, LuxPanel provides over 50,000 hours of illumination without maintenance and are easy to install using plug and play drivers.
With the project completed, CO2 emissions
have been reduced by over 5 tonnes annually and energy savings of 65% have been calculated. Additional savings have also been gained from not having to replace failed fluorescent lamps, providing a truly no maintenance, cost effective LED lighting solution for Al Jazira Football Club. uA Luceco LED lighng soluon for Al Jazira Football Club has significantly reduced energy costs and C02
emissions. New Leeds hot spot turns to Lochinvar
Leeds is a city on the up. It has just been voted the fifth best destination to visit in Europe by the Lonely Planet guide.
The city centre is booming and several major international chains have recently opened venues in the heart of the city including the trendy New York themed East 59th Rooftop Bar and Grill. Situated in the smart new Victoria Gate Shopping Centre, East 59th looks like one of the Big Apple’s huge and stylish loft spaces. This type of flexible venue serving customers day and night experiences steady demand for hot water from the kitchen, bar area and washrooms. As a result, one of Lochinvar’s high efficiency EcoSword water heaters was specified.
uSituated in the Victoria Gate Shopping Centre, Leeds, East 59th Rooop Bar and Grill is benefing from a Lochinvar high eciency EcoSword water heater.
These low NOx, fully condensing gas-fired products are designed specifically for small to medium-sized commercial projects – and are ideal for restaurants. They are available in nine models with storage capacities ranging from 163 to 388 litres and with rapid hot water recovery rates from
210 to 540 litres per hour based on a temperature rise of 50°C.
EcoSword’s ‘cold zone’ heat exchanger design ensures that the unit operates in condensing mode as much as possible and, along with its fully modulating pre-mix burner, this allows it to achieve seasonal efficiencies of up to 98.2% (Building Regulations) and water heater efficiency of up to 94% (ErP). All models are WRAS certified and ‘A’ rated under the ErP Energy Labelling legislation. With air quality also an increasingly important consideration for specifiers, EcoSword boasts NOx emissions below 37 mg/kWh across the range and, therefore, each model qualifies for the maximum three BREEAM points available.
The EcoSword range has a variety of flue options for ease of installation, and at East 59th, a room- sealed concentric horizontal balanced flue system was the most appropriate.

The Bannatyne Health Club and Spa in Peterborough has been equipped with a stateoftheart Toshiba heat recovery air condioning system as part of a major refurbishment.
Health club installs Toshiba heat recovery VRF system
A Toshiba variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system is now providing high-performance, energy-efficient cooling and heating for Peterborough-based Bannatyne Health Club and Spa’s gym, exercise studios, treatment rooms, salon, offices, reception and bar area.
The installation, carried out by Toshiba T7 Warranty Partner Ventec Services Ltd, includes a combination of eight Toshiba 3-pipe SHRMe VRF and 2-pipe SMMSe VRF condensing units, linked to four-way cassettes and wall-mounted indoor units, together with a Toshiba touch screen controller. To minimise disruption to club members, the installer worked on the project out of hours, with equipment deliveries scheduled accordingly.
Steve Hancock, Bannatyne Group’s Technical Services Director, said: “Providing a comfortable environment for our members and staff is vital to our mission. Energy efficiency is also very important. We value the reliability and efficiency of Toshiba equipment, and the support they provide at every
stage of the design and installation process.” Key requirements of the client and consultant, Services Design Associates Limited, were a high quality, reliable and energy efficient system. Toshiba application staff supported the consultant through the design stage, while Toshiba distributor Cool Designs Limited supported the installer on site. The Toshiba system won the project due to its excellent energy efficiency, which delivers lower running costs, and its ability to provide continuous heating during defrost, resulting in greater comfort for customers and staff. In addition, the client, consultant and installer highly valued Toshiba’s seven-year T7 warranty with enhanced labour allowance. Toshiba Air Conditioning UK is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Since being won over to the advantages of the joint air and dirt separator with hydraulic balancing, Abbots Heating has installed the 3-in-1 product in a school and a golf club.
The SpiroCross is designed for optimum use in new-build and refurbished apartment buildings, small offices and other commercial locations.
As a single unit it carries the flow and return and has at its heart a spiral structure, the Spirotube, which ensures that micro bubbles in the fluid rise automatically, while dirt particles sink.
uAbbots Heang specified the SpiroCross for St Michael’s Catholic High School in Garston.
Abbots Heating, based in Abbots Langley, specified the SpiroCross for St Michael’s Catholic High School in nearby Garston.
The company installed the AX 150 into the school’s 100kW cascade format heating system and an AX 125 for the 49kW single system serving its administration block. Abbots Heating also chose an AX 125 for Grim’s Dyke Golf Club, at Hatch End, near Pinner, Middlesex. Paul Jeeves, Director of Abbots Heating, which this year

celebrates 30 years in heating engineering, said: “We have used SpiroCross on systems between 45kw and up to 160kw, using Viesmann boilers, for the past three years. “We have found the SpiroCross to have a low resistance to flow and, with the added benefits of debris collection and air separation, found it to protect the systems very well.
“When compared to the alternative of building your own low loss header - with the added cost of strainers and labour on top of basic materials then lagging it – the SpiroCross is very cost effective, especially with the pre- formed insulation jacket.
“It is extremely compact, which is an advantage when space is at a premium.”
Spirotech Specification Manager Keith Mileham, said: “As well as performing the functions of three otherwise separate components, the SpiroCross has a market leading 20-year warranty.”
