Worcester Bosch introduces remote monitoring with Vericon Systems


orcester Bosch has partnered with Vericon Systems to offer a range of efficient, remote

monitoring solutions delivering affordable, reliable compliance and safety

Worcester Bosch has recognised the growing needs of Social Housing customers to be able to monitor the condition of their housing stock, including the heating systems as part of overall tenants’ welfare.

While the boiler is a vitally important part of the home, there is also a need for a number of other monitoring solutions from environmental to emergency light compliance. As a result, Worcester Bosch has partnered with Vericon, a leading provider of cutting-edge building management technologies, to offer a range of solutions for remote monitoring. The partnership will deliver a single control module that social housing customers can use to monitor a wide range of applications in their tenant homes, such as lighting, heating, temperature and humidity.


The Vericon BCM (Boiler Control module) has been developed to work in conjunction with Worcester’s latest energy efficient and technically advanced boilers, the Greenstar 4000, 8000 and 2000 range, and is also fully compatible with the majority of appliances installed in tenant homes today.

The BCM is an innovative device that connects directly to a boiler’s core control, providing two-way communication and control of major functions.

The BCM module can communicate with a wide range of boiler manufacturers’ appliances. BCM will issue real-time fault notifications, history and boiler telemetry allowing faults to be managed remotely, without the cost of an engineer needed onsite. In addition to this, BCM acts as a gateway for other Vericon devices which can highlight potential issues and prevent faults from occurring in the future. The BCM module is easy to install

and has been designed for social housing and those directly responsible for their tenants’ welfare.

The Connect Portal

Connect is a single portal which allows for social housing provider’s complete Ecosystem to be monitored, managed, and maintained remotely. Connect is a highly secure cloud- based data processing and machine learning hub at the heart of all Vericon System’s solutions.

When the BCM is connected to this portal, the social housing or maintenance provider can receive a range of highly useful boiler information including the status of the appliance and its efficiency. If there is a fault with the heating system, a range of boiler faults and remedial action information will be available.

This information enables the social housing organisation to improve their efficiency when carrying out repairs,

and more importantly allows them to provide a better service to their tenants. All whilst improving the efficiency of their heating system and keeping boiler down-time to a minimum.

Vericon’s EcoSystem

There are a number of additional solution-based devices within Vericon’s EcoSystem. Autofill monitors (and tops up) central heating systems autonomously, helping to significantly reduce engineers visits and helpdesk calls.

AutoDose automatically tops up Inhibitor in the system when low levels are detected, to aid in driving product longevity and efficiency. MultiDot is a device that monitors temperature and humidity within a property, helping manage disrepair investment when it comes to complying with Fit for Human Habitation Act.

Holding up to 31,000 pallets of goods across its 31 aisles, the centre was constructed to meet the demands that have come from continued growth in online sales, something that has only

accelerated in the current climate. During the project, 578 luminaires and an emergency lighting system were fitted across the facility in both the fulfillment centre and office accommodation. In-house teams also worked externally at the site and installed 25 street lights and flood lights. Alongside the lighting division, the EcoMech and Ecolec teams were specified to fulfill the site’s HVAC requirements, which included fitting air conditioning units, toilet extract systems, electric panel heaters and above ground drainage. Ecolectrical engineers were also required to install a new mains panel board and 10 distribution boards to operate the door access control, intruder alarm and communications cabinets. Outside, five EV charging systems were added to the site’s car park.

“The figures reflect growing confidence in the UK economy and the construction industry which is, of course, welcome. However, it is clear that the severe shortage of products and materials, as well as issues around transportation, are now having an adverse effect on lead times and putting inflationary pressure on prices.

“There is no easy fix to this problem, other than medium to long-term changes in our approach – I would hope that this leads to smarter design through the use of alternative materials, which could also have the added benefit of creating less carbon intensive buildings and structures and accelerating our path to Net Zero.”

Commenting on the news that homeowners are to get 15 years to sue for 'shoddy' workmanship, Jonathan Frankel, litigation partner at Cavendish Legal Group, said: “Extending the limitation period from six years to 15 years will be beneficial for some leaseholders, particularly those who feel they are able to challenge the landlord.

“However, it’s not necessarily the case that it would ‘put new cards in the hands of the leaseholder’ as Robert Jenrick says. It simply delays the period of limitation to allow them to bring legal challenges.

“As such, issues of representation and funding for any legal action and subsequent repairs will continue to be the major obstacle for most leaseholders.

“Politically this feels like the Government is simply kicking the can down the road which will actually prolong the pain for leaseholders further. In my view there is no benefit to extending the limitation period without helping leaseholders fund potential legal actions. That’s the change we want to see. “But for those who will seek legal action against building firms, it’s imperative that they have expert advice on their side. At CLG we have a specialist property litigation department for that reason. We can advise leaseholders in respect of what options they have and what financial recovery they could benefit from if legal action is pursued.”

As Robert Jenrick prepares to unveil details of the new Building Safety Bill, including the launch of a new safety regulator, Mark Beard, chairman at family owned and run construction firm Beard, comments:

“This is an important bill for a number of reasons; in particular, the tragedy of Grenfell cast a terrible shadow across the whole of our industry. “A renewed focus on building user safety from a regulator which is able to enforce standards is to be welcomed, at the same time as the construction industry renews it efforts to improve the overall quality of buildings delivered to our customers. “As president of the CIOB, one of the key achievements of my term was to publish the CIOB Guide for Construction Quality, which is now used by practitioners working collaboratively throughout the construction supply chain.

“In my view, ensuring that work onsite maintains the quality expected of the specifications and design, throughout the build, should have the same status as health and safety policy; achieving this, will go a long way to restoring public confidence in what our industry delivers.”
