PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES OF MATERIALS HANDLING SAFETY

Transmon Engineering Limited prides itself on being at the forefront of materials handling safety

ransmon Engineering has a goal to become the number one supplier of safety and control systems to the forklift market and it is well on its way to achieving this with the recent expansion of its engineering and sales teams. The business also chooses selected companies to partner with, whose product ranges complement Transmon’s UK designed and built product portfolio. What this means is that Transmon Engineering is quickly becoming the go- to, one-stop-shop for materials handling safety and control systems. Its range of products encompasses everything from safety lighting, its already hugely successful range of speed controllers, to full fleet management driver access systems enabling sites to become safer and more efficient. The partnership of Transmon and other

T

suppliers enables a real focus on technology integration. This integration allows the boundaries of what is possible to be constantly pushed and none more so than Transmon’s partnership with SiteZone Safety, which is the market- leading provider of RFID-based pedestrian warning systems. The integration of Transmon’s iTEch control speed controller allows what was previously a ‘warning only’ system to become an ‘active’ system. The

capabilities of the system now allow not only a warning when a pedestrian is detected but also for the truck to be slowed down upon the detection of a pedestrian. This is something that Transmon is not aware is available anywhere else in the market. This year is set to be an exciting one

for all involved at Transmon Engineering, as 2017 saw record breaking sales figures and December saw further expansion of the sales team. Ross Munro, business development

manager, comments: “2018 is a really exciting time for us, we have a number of large multi-national projects we are working on at the moment as well as developing strong relationships with leading worldwide forklift manufacturers. We are in the right market place, with the right products, with the right people at the right time, which puts us in a very strong position moving forward this year. We also have some new products that we are working on behind the scenes that we are eager to share with the market place.” Reliability and safety are key to anyone

looking at materials handling safety and control systems and this is an area that Transmon excels at, with its expert knowledge in the industry that is led at the helm by Steve Coley, an engineer himself. The company has a range of robust products designed specifically for arduous forklift and materials handling conditions. Transmon not only offers the products on a supply only basis but also fully fitted by one of the company’s expert field-based engineers. First-Fit- Assist is something that the business as a whole is keen to push forward; this is a cost effective way of getting the systems installed and consists of one of Transmon’s engineers attending site not only to install the systems supplied, but to help guide and train others on how

the system operates and how it is installed. This enables end-users and materials handling dealers to get hands- on training, which in turn gives them the knowledge and understanding to install the system themselves; this cost saving is then passed on to the customer, ensuring that the highest level of customer satisfaction is achieved. Site safety, and in particular pedestrian safety, whilst on site is, and has always been, a major concern for operations that involve materials handling equipment and the presence of such equipment in the nearby vicinity of pedestrians. This crossover of materials handling equipment and pedestrians cannot always be avoided and there are a number of ways in which companies such as Transmon Engineering can aid with making these areas safety. One area that is extremely cost effective is the introduction of safety lighting on forklift trucks. These red LED lights create a perimeter around the truck that acts as a visual ‘barrier’, coupled with a blue LED directional spot light to warn pedestrians of a moving forklift truck; these enhance the safety of a site quickly and efficiently. Materials handling safety and the technology surrounding not only the individual systems, but the fork lift trucks themselves, is always changing and evolving and Transmon is able to harness these new technologies and create bespoke solutions for customers, dealers and manufacturers who may be unaware that a solution is available. These bespoke technology solutions enable Transmon’s customers to push the boundaries of what is possible.
