bsolute, precise linear measurement is now easy to interface to virtually any industrial control network.
The Balluff BML SL1 absolute magnetic linear encoder with IO-Link provides absolute position measurement, over lengths up to 8 metres and with position resolution to 1 micrometre. The BML SL1 leverages the power of IO-Link to allow simplified integration of absolute linear position measurement to nearly any industrial control platform. The sensor reports exact position data without requiring additional calculations for resolution or analogue to digital conversion. According to Adrian Sorsby, Product Marketing Manager for Balluff's measurement products, the BML SL1 is especially relevant in applications with high sensor density. "Not only does the IO-Link interface greatly simplify the connection to the machine control system, IO-Link also presents opportunities for substantial cost savings by allowing numerous sensors to be connected to one IO-Link master, using standard unshielded sensor cables."

SAB Welding and Cutting has introduced OK Flux 10.62 (Advanced Slag Release) for Submerged Arc Welding (SAW). Compared to many other high basic fluxes on the market, the upgraded OK Flux 10.62 (Advanced Slag Release) offers better slag release for single and multiple wire SAW processes, as well as better recyclability due to its high grain strength. “OK Flux 10.62 (Advanced Slag Release) is a high basicity, neutral, agglomerated flux especially suited for narrow gap welding because of its good slag detachability and smooth sidewall blending,” says Martin Gehring, ESAB Global Product Line Manager – Mild and Low-alloyed SAW. “The narrow running slag allows higher currents in narrow gap joints which means increased deposition rate and consequently higher productivity.” In addition, as a result of its high grain strength, the flux being welded has a more constant grain size distribution after multiple recycling circles, on long recycling distances or under higher air pressures. This increases the product consistency and thus the weld seam quality.

Ultrasonic sensors from ifm now feature IO-Link U
ltrasonic sensors from ifm electronic first appeared on the market only last year and have been well received, so
expectations are running high with the news that customers can now benefit from the advantages of IO-Link in ultrasonics, too. Added value though IO-Link: the now well-established IO-Link
standard offers many recognised benefits, from virtual teach- button setting of the switch point to secure transmission of the distance value in mm.
Other useful aspects of the IO-Link
inclusion cover switch-on delay and switch-off delay and diagnostics. If need be, an IO-Link sensor can easily be replaced as the transfer of parameters is automatic. The versions with IO-Link are produced in an industry-standard
M18 body, with long and short housings in both plastic and stainless steel. Five different sensing ranges cover up to a maximum of 2.2m.

occupational noise monitoring in the workplace. Participants will understand how to turn noise readings into meaningful values that will help determine the most appropriate form of action such as noise control or hearing protection. After successful completion of a test at the end of the day, individuals are awarded with a certificate, showing they have been trained to monitor noise in the workplace.
