TouchPath launches cutting edge IoT solution for manufacturers

nternational supply chain solutions provider TouchPath is launching ‘TouchIoT’, a new Industrial Internet of
Things (IIoT) system that makes the big, real-time data generated by shop floor and warehouse machines available to manufacturing requirements planning (MRP/ERP) and manufacturing execution (MES) systems for smarter business decision making. TouchIoT communicates with production, packaging and distribution and other automated processes to extract information that can then be posted to ERP and other systems and also displayed on a KPI dashboard to manage live shift production problems and performance. The same IIoT-driven* technology can also be used to monitor security, temperature control and other specialist systems. (*Industrial Internet of Things) TouchIoT uses TouchPath’s latest technology platform,
TransitionWorks v.6.0.3 which follows the OPC (OLE for Process Control) industry open standard, enabling interoperability between devices and systems in industrial automation. According to analyst Gartner by 2020 more than half of major new business processes and systems will incorporate some element of the Internet of Things.

he famously distinctive bright green shell of one of CFB Boilers’ 4VT Steam Boiler has been transformed
with a copper overskin – and the result is jaw-dropping. This customised job was completed at the request of an equally famous client who is set to launch a microbrewery in Devon later this year. The brewery will produce real ale to help pubs and restaurants meet increasing demand for the product. Handcrafted at CFB Boilers’ manufacturing facility in
Essex, this exclusive 4VT Steam Boiler underwent an overskin process using a 12mm copper sheet – the same material that is used by coppersmiths in the brewing industry on copper tanks, vessels and pipework – to give the boiler a more traditional look. The usual bright red burner casing was also exchanged for a more complementary metallic silver finish. Ready to fire with skid, the boiler was then sited and installed by CFB Boiler’s in-house engineers at the client’s microbrewery. Despite its copper exterior, the 4VT steam boiler still
very much retains its green credentials; it is arguably the most energy efficient, high performance, reliable, and low maintenance steam boiler on the market thanks to a number of class-leading innovations. These include energy-saving four-pass technology, a 30% larger steam chamber, and integral heat recovery. Additionally, the 4VT Steam Boiler boasts a start-up time of just 10-15 minutes, precise temperature delivery, a
compact, tubeless design, and can be used with gas, oil or LPG. Fans of the 4VT Steam Boiler’s trademark green colour needn’t worry though, as Derek Parish, Managing Director
of CFB Boilers, explained: “Clients can request a specific colour or finish for our boilers and plant rooms. As well as metallic finishes, we’ve done custom paint jobs in just about every colour you can imagine to fit in with our client’s branding or other particular needs. However, most clients absolutely love the original green and red on our flagship 4VT as it brings a great pop of colour to the brewery floor.” CFB Boiler’s 4VT Steam Boiler is available in 12 models from 8- 150HP and is manufactured by the 120-year-old
steam specialist in Britain. CFB Boilers Ltd

transmission technology specialists, Xtrac, as he prepares to fully-retire from the Leeds-based manufacturer. Over his time as Engineering Director, Peter was instrumental in many of Union’s bespoke Fabric Engineered solutions, having been involved with specifying, designing, surveying and also the installation of multiple Industrial Curtains for customers both in and outside of the UK. The company is looking to recruit an equally inventive
and creative Mechanical Engineer to continue the Industrial Curtains division’s success. Peter assisted with the installation of the heavy-duty
Curtain at Thatcham-based Xtrac, which specialises in the design and manufacture of transmissions for the automotive and motorsport industries. The company needed a solution to segregate an area for hygiene reasons. Union Industries provided a 3-Side Static Enclosure to
give an isolated area within Xtrac’s CNC Shot Peening & Mastra department, to help prevent the cross migration of contaminant airborne particulate from entering the New Turbo Treater Machine process. The 3-Side Static Enclosure was fitted in two phases, as
access was needed to install the New Turbo Treater machine and buffer tank. One existing double-pedestrian door was incorporated within the Static Partition,

for which Union supplied the steel work frame to support the door. On top of this, a specially designed Roman blind- style doorway was installed for access into the enclosed area by the likes of trolleys and pallet trucks. Andrew Jackson, Senior Process Engineer at Xtrac said, “Union Industries has provided us with a practical solution that has allowed us to segregate and protect our new equipment without directly compromising our working conditions and procedures.
required into our bespoke fabric enclosure; special non-standard colour for the fabric, vision windows, the bespoke Roman blind-style doorway, plus a very sturdy steel frame for our own double-doors” Peter Rodgers said, “Union’s Industrial Curtains, Dividing Walls and Fabric Enclosures have been used in warehouses, factories, aircraft hangers and large storage facilities, across a number of industry sectors. As a result, our range is more-often-than-not tailored to offer a bespoke solution, incorporating as many modifications and special features that our client requires. “Xtrac now has a fitting solution, which will enable
them to run a cleaner operation that will support the efficiency and productivity of their business.” Andrew Lane, Union Industries’ Managing Director said
“Peter will be sorely missed, and his replacement to fill the mechanical engineering aspect of our Curtain division certainly has big shoes to fill. A born engineer, Peter is able to turn his hand to anything and has been instrumental in the development of our Fabric Engineering department. We’re now looking for an excellent, practical, engineer who fits in with Union’s ethos of providing high quality bespoke solutions. This position is key to continue the growth we’ve experienced in this division and we need someone who can thrive on the challenge that is Industrial Curtains.”
