ccording to the latest Irish DataCentre Sector report prepared by

Host In Ireland, in association with Bitpower, ‘Ireland will see inward investment from data centres top €10bn by 2022.’ The report goes on to state that:

“Inward investment from data centres has tripled over the past four years, bringing the average annual spend to €1.3bn each year, and this continues to grow.” Garry Connolly, CEO and founder of

Host In Ireland says: “The ability to send, receive and store vast amounts of information as quickly and efficiently as possible, all being energised by green/renewable sources, is key to Ireland retaining its competitive advantage in the tech industry. The demand for data globally only continues to grow and investment will continue so far as that trend lasts.” Ireland, and particularly Dublin, is

currently Europe’s largest data centre market and home to four of the leading five hyperscalers active in the European market (Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Facebook). Last year saw 16 new data halls come

online, taking the total number of active data centres in Ireland to 53. However, the real story is that a further 29 data centres have approved planning

permission and are under development. This level of investment means there are huge opportunities for investors, suppliers and service providers operating in the data centre infrastructure sector. Anthony McDermott from construction

consultant Mitchell McDermott says: “We find that typically 55 per cent of spend in the sector is on equipment including generators and other large items, such as air conditioning units. A further 20 per cent is spent on civil, structural and architectural services, 15 per cent is spent on mechanical, electrical and plumbing services and 10 per cent on preliminary construction costs.” DataCentres Ireland is the country’s

largest and most complete free-to- attend event addressing the needs of all those involved in the Irish data centre market. Featuring over 60 speakers and

panellists, the multi-streamed conference will again host a Strategy Stream, as well as one addressing operational issues, to ensure relevance to all involved in the data centres sector, as well as other mission critical environments. The Strategy Stream will discuss the

issues and opportunities related to Ireland as a location for the hosting of digital assets and data centre investment, and the Operational Stream
