founded in 1977.

Who are the BFA’s members The BFA is made up of franchisors, their franchisees, advisors (ie solicitors, banks, accountants) and suppliers (ie those delivering a product or service to the franchise sector)

How the BFA works The BFA has a strict Code of Ethics for Franchising to which all members pledge and by which their businesses are audited. This covers everything from how a franchise is allowed to market its opportunity, through to the legality of the franchise agreement, the training and the support they offer to franchisees initially, and on an ongoing basis.

What this means for prospective franchisees On application to join the association, a member’s business will be audited to ensure full compliance on every single area of the code. The BFA will also inspect the member’s fi nancial situation to ensure it is a viable business. A franchise must reapply for membership every two years, at which time repeat checks for compliance will be made.
