Welcome!
Robin Hoyleon what to expect at – and how to gain the most from – the World of Learning Summit 2023

curse goes: “May you live in interesting times” and well … we do! The current turbulence has had a massive impact on organisations in general, and L&D teams in particular. The shock of a global pandemic slowly faded to reveal an even more confusing landscape, one riven with economic uncertainty, widening inequality and all its attendant challenges – whether that’s industrial action or a labour market more volatile than I can ever remember – each affect our industry and workplaces. While it would be perfectly reasonable

to curl up under a duvet and wait for it all to pass, L&D folks are made of sterner stuff. So, I hope that this summit provides practical and pragmatic insights into how we can make sense of our role amidst the current uncertain environment. New challenges for leaders are front and centre of our programme. Of course, it would be madness to ignore the fact that money is tight and budgets constrained. There are sessions focused on upskilling and, I’m pleased to say, a focus on learning beyond the classroom or digital module

events differ from other conferences and summits is that we’re not preaching a single mantra. We have assembled a terrfic st f cntrtrs se speakers, some facilitating more collaborative sessions – they all have much to add. But one thing I can be sure of is that they won’t all agree! However, we want the challenge of constructive disagreement! We want our contributors to challenge the audience to think bigger. To think differently and do differently. But most of all, we want you to challenge them.
Bring your beefs, bring your experience and bring your voice. The Word of Learning Summit exists not because of the great folks on the podium, but because of the great folks in the audience. I hope you enjoy the Summit with us, but most of all I hope you learn some new things – and help others learn them too.
