■ Myth 4: Senior Leader Apprenticeships are only for large companies – there is a belief that SLAs are only useful for large corporations. At Cranfi eld, content of the modules is tailored to ensure the learning fi ts the specifi c needs and contexts of smaller organisations as well as larger. T ere is also a belief that only large corporations with large apprenticeship levy pots, can aff ord to send their staff on SLAs. While it is true that larger organisations have bigger levy pots, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can also access apprenticeships. At Cranfi eld, there is the additional option of a ‘levy gift’ from Santander which will fund the apprenticeship for any organisation who has insuffi cient funds to support their employees’ needs.


■ Myth 5: Apprenticeships do not offer career progression – a further misconception is that apprenticeships do not result in the same career progression in comparison to traditional education pathways. On the contrary, SLAs are purposely designed with career advancement in mind. T ey equip individuals to not only take on those higher-level responsibilities within their organisations, but also learn how to make themselves more visible and demonstrate they are capable of those strategic positions. Many senior leaders who have completed Cranfi eld apprenticeships report signifi cant career progression; with many being promoted either during or shortly after completing their apprenticeship.


■ Myth 6: Apprenticeships are easier than traditional qualifi cations – SLAs can be perceived as easier options compared to traditional educational qualifi cations, but every SLA is rigorous and demanding, requiring a significant commitment from apprentices. T e design of the Cranfi eld ‘Senior Leader Executive Programme’ ensures that every apprentice experiences academically robust learning, requiring both theoretical and critical thinking skills, with practical application and real-world problem solving.
