Driving
regeneration: major milestones and opportunities
West Northamptonshire Council is accelerating its ambitious regeneration plans, with several transformative projects now well under way, each designed to boost economic growth, attract invest- ment and create vibrant spaces for businesses and communities.
Abington Street: £70m mixed-use development Social impact developer Capital&Centric has been appointed to deliver a £70m scheme on Abington Street, breathing new life into the former M&S and BHS stores. T is fl agship development will introduce hundreds of new homes alongside restaurants, fl exible retail units, bars, cafés and landscaped public spaces. Residents will benefi t from premium amenities including a rooftop terrace, gym, mini cinema and co-working spaces, creating a dynamic environ- ment for living and working. Specialist contractor Colemans is nearing completion of the
complex deconstruction phase, using precision techniques to minimise disruption. T is milestone signals a major step forward in revitalising Northampton’s core, unlocking new opportunities for local businesses and driving footfall to the town centre.
Market Walk: STACK Northampton begin to take shape Exciting progress is also under way at Market Walk, where soft strip- out works have offi cially begun. T is marks the fi rst stage in delivering STACK Northampton, a £12m leisure destination set to redefi ne the town centre experience. Featuring an eclectic mix of street food, vibrant bars, live entertainment, and family-friendly spaces, STACK will create a dynamic hub for dining, socialising and events. Beyond enhancing Northampton’s cultural off er, the scheme is
expected to boost the local economy, attract visitors and strengthen the town’s position as a go-to destination within West Northants. Businesses can anticipate increased footfall and partnership opportunities as this transformative venue gathers momentum.
Greyfriars: Northampton’s fl agship regeneration project The Greyfriars site represents the town’s largest brownfield regeneration opportunity. Delivered by ECF in partnership with West Northamptonshire Council, this project will transform a long-stalled area into a vibrant mixed-use destination. Plans include high-quality homes, cultural venues, commercial spaces and landscaped public areas, all designed to improve connectivity and pedestrian movement. In 2026, public engagement will intensify through in-person
events, ensuring community input shapes the vision ahead of an autumn planning submission. For businesses, Greyfriars off ers a unique chance to be part of a benchmark development that prioritises inclusivity, sustainability, and economic growth, creating a platform for new jobs, investment, and enterprise.
T ese projects are more than construction, they represent a
strategic investment in Northampton’s future, creating environments where businesses can thrive. From retail and hospitality to professional services and creative industries, the regeneration programme will deliver new commercial opportunities, increased footfall and a stronger local economy.
