AUWCL Alumni Earn Recognition at D.C. Bar Celebration of Leadership


American University Washington College of Law alumni earned significant recognition at the D.C. Bar’s 2026 Celebration of Leadership, the organization’s annual event honoring outstanding service, leadership and contributions to the legal profession.


Among the honorees was John Jacob ’93, who received the Laura N. Rinaldi Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year Award for his longstanding commitment to expanding access to justice.


The evening also marked a major milestone for AUWCL alumna Diane Seltzer ’91, who was sworn in as president of the D.C. Bar during the ceremonial passing of the gavel. AUWCL alumni


continue to play important leadership roles within the organization, including Amanda Molina ’16, who assumed the office of treasurer, and Andrea Mangones ’09, who won reelection to the D.C. Bar Board of Governors.


Additional alumni recognized during the celebration included Loren Ponds ’02, Kel McClanahan ’07, Kevin Barnett ’10, Annica Mae Mattus ’18, Benjamin Reyes ’22 and Amy Lyons ’23.


Associate Dean for Student Affairs David Jaffe ’93 attended the celebration on behalf of AUWCL, joining alumni and members of the legal community in recognizing the achievements of this year’s honorees and leaders. — Keith Pierce
