But there was disappointment for the two local golfers bid-

© ding to make an appearance in the final stages of the Cham pionship. . Both Joey Lamb (Wilp-

shire GC) and Jonathan Hurst (Pleasington) had high hopes

^ of qualifying for the final four rounds for the Brabazon Tro-

.phy at Notts Golf Club in June. First played for in 1948, the

Brabazon Trophy is one of the most coveted prizes in ama-

• teurgolf. Hurst managed to stay lev

el par through the first eight holes. A double bogey 6 at the ninth gave him an outward score o f 37, but he seemed back on track for a qualifying place after three straight pars

vcz' r before a double bogey 7 at the par 5 13th, and dropped shots at the three closing holes left

him four shots shy of a quali fying spot.

fiers was 20-year-old William WhiteoakofShipley GolfClub, - who carded a three under par round o f 68.

Quad racer Ayrton Knowles (14) has started the season in devastating form. He holdsan 11-point lead in the 250cc open class British Championship and an 86-point advantage in the Northern Championship. He has won five of his last nine races, and finished second in the other four, will all to race for in the rest of the year.

best p e r form an c e s I've been involved in as cap tain,” beamed O’Connor. “It topped the performance

when we beat Settle in the

beat them at their place in the league was when we had Akram Raza as professional 12 years ago! it must be psy- . chological because we’ve al ways struggled there.” However, Read we re
